Can you do the above in a Range Rover? X5? Q7?

Or am I doomed to buy an XC90?

Don't want anything as big as a Disco and only looking to spend £15k-£20k.

go down to local dealer and ask to try the seats in the configuration you want.

When I got my jag I went there and the deal was if the pram fits accross the boot at above the bumper then it was a go,if not sorry and bye bye

it did fit

You mean the first one? I replied to that, haven't received anything since then.

Discos are just offensively big IMO. 2.7 tonnes and they must be a 'mare to park.
Q7 is a dainty supermini in comparison. Barely any longer than my Allroad.

But it's not how big on the outside, it's how wide (and flat) the rear seats are.
Will be taking part in school runs soon and nobody's going to help out picking our kids up if we can't reciprocate.

Don't want an MPV, good as the S-Max is. Want to retain 4x4 for snow and floods we occasionally get out here.

Seen that, but I want the space to put 2 child seats with either an adult in between or another child seat.

The Q7 is longer that the Discovery. The discovery is only about 2cm wider

Have you ever driven a Discovery? I seriously wouldn't write them off just yet. I'm 20 years old manage to park my parent's Discovery 3s when I use them without any problems.

Why do people not think before having children.

I mean, did you consider, for a second, before having the third, that it would reduce you to 3 ton wafty cars that can't be parked properly ?

Sheesh. Some people.

The Discovery seems to hide its size well from inside, it's probably lighter and more airy place to be than the Q7 too, google results (including even a thread on errrr Mumsnet) confirm that 3 will fit in the back

ETA: Forgot to add, is the Discovery 4 Bigger than a Range Rover?!

I always get the impression that the Disco is longer than a RR? Otherwise where does the 3rd row and huge boot fit in the car?

As I said, we only have 2 kids, but will frequently be asked to pick up another and/or a 3rd adult.

We have a Chevrolet Captiva which is a great family bus and has a third row of seats for when we take the outlaws out with us. (we only have two kids)

I wouldnt want to use them on a regular basis because they take up the boot and I wouldnt feel happy if someone rear ended us.

IMO a Disco with a third row is one of the best (and safer) options.

What about a people carrier, some of them can get 3 car seats on a row. The Picasso we had could do this (but it was a tight fit)

Really? Crikey, that's out then.

Anyone tried the latest X5s for such a scenario? I know they have a 7 seat option, but apparently the boot disappears and we also have 2 dogs!

Honestly, buy a Disco3.

Aside from the Disco4, it's the best car you can buy for the money.

(if you're looking for an SUV, obviously).

FYI, some stats:

Is the Disco really 2.2m wide? That's HUGE!
