Is that the 'proper' Vauxhall that has had no input at all from Vauxhall (or GM Europe/Opel for that matter), in the design, testing or manufacture, and is made by Holden on the other side of the world? evo review http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/235218/vauxhall_...
im undecided, 20k is not a lot of money for a 12-18 month old 321bhp saloon with 4wd.
not convinced about the styling and its still a vauxhall.

With the country's affairs not looking too good, I just couldn't buy a car like this for this kind of money (£20k+) and pay the higher tax band as well as the fuel.
I think I would be more inclined to go for something like a 3-4 year old Porsche Cayman S if I had the need for something sporty.

Haven't had much love for many Vauxhalls in the last few years I have to say, and models such as the Insignia (I liked to refer to it as the Insignifica) did nothing to further my feelings about where they were going.
But I have to say, was taking a walk into town earlier today and saw an Insignia VXR parked up and it was handsome and purposeful enough that it made me stop in my tracks and have a good look at it. I could tell it was a version of the Insignia but couldn't quite bring myself to believe it... very nice looking car, and had some fairly serious sized Brembo stoppers at front suggesting it must pack a reasonable powerplant. Off to go do some research on them now!
I saw a blue one on the road last week. I too was quite amazed at how good it looked. Still reckon you'd have to be off your rocker to buy one over a VXR8 (Bathurst) though. But I have to say, was taking a walk into town earlier today and saw an Insignia VXR parked up and it was handsome and purposeful enough that it made me stop in my tracks and have a good look at it. Get yourself to a VXR power festival.
I took the Wife to silverstone in August.
It your not stupid like me and take your license you get to drive a VXR around the track.(I forgot mine!!)
My Wife was taken on 2 hot laps in an Insignia VXR and then she drove a Corsa for 2 laps herself (Her choice)
It cost £10 and goes to help the heroes too. A good day out!

I suppose that trend for vauxhalls has come from the artic editions of the corsa and the astra and the nurburgring astra. IMHO I think it looks pretty nice in whiteI quite like the look of the Insignia VXR's and a quick look at the courtney website reveals that a £575 remap unleashes some ponies but a stonking extra amount of torque. Hopefully the car would be able to handle it usefully being 4 wheel drive.
Copied/pasted from courtenay website -
Courtenay Sport ECU Remap
We carry out a full engine diagnostic test first. Then Exclusive Courtenay Sport software is installed raising the boost levels, whilst optimising the fuel and timing/ignition curves. A Rolling Road calibration, set up and testing session follows and finally Power and Torque Graphs are produced.
Peak Power Increase to 340bhp
Torque: 410+ lb ft (550+ Nm)
£575 Fitted including datalogging and set up
Insignia VXR 2.8 V6 Turbo Engine With an ecu remap we can take the Insignia VXR up to a peak of about 340 bhp (temperature and enviromental conditions dependent). Whilst this only equates to a 15 bhp gain at peak, don't think that's all this is about or that our remap is not worth a second glance. Whilst the peak gains are not that impressive it is not all about out and out peak power gains.............
Our remap gives a massive hike of about +100 bhp in the mid range at 3,700 rpm and a gain of around +140 lb ft torque which completely transforms this car's on road ability. Mid range performance is simply breath taking!

How do these fair up against the Passat 4WD and cc 4WD then, as I imagine that's what it's competing against too?
Actually, I'm surprised noone seems to have done an Insignia VXR vs Passat R36 group test...Blown2CV said:
was the vectra vxr not the worst car ever made... has anyone actually driven one of these to confirm it is any better?
No, yes, they're really quite good.Wabstain Clarkson took a pre-production car (which had SRI suspension), turned off it's electronic gismos and then made a point of making it look bad.
We've got the 280hp ones at work, and even on 215-50-17 Eagle NCT5 (not the world's most high performing tyre) they handle fine.
Thorney Motorsport do some interesting stuff or these too
