For a standard road car my Elise is amazing on the track.

Sfo I also found the Elise sc to feel not quite as fast as i'd hoped. The 'r' feels as fast but for a shorter time if that makes any sense. The 'r' is more fun but the sc more effective. Again you'd be amazed what difference a naughty pipe makes.
Elise SC's power delivery is almost too smooth .. such that you don't get a power rush, like when Porsche's hit 4000 rpm ...

I agree, same for the Exige 220. Very progressive power delivery but a little too sensible. It gets a lot more exciting in 260 cup form. That has a really sharp rush to the redline.

Indeed it does and that is an extremely capable car on track. It also has an evora s humbling power/weight ratio.

Interesting point; Porsche engineer that step into their power curves, IIRC its called 'bissen' (bite).

I had a ride round track in an Evora (wasn't allowed a drive unfortunately) and even from the passesnger seat you could tell how agile and progressive it was on the limit. I'll have one one day!

According to RGB literature from Lotus, Exige 260hp RGB is slower to 60mph and 100mph than Elise SC by about 0.2 secs

The 'perfect' Evora S should have a Porsche GT3 engine or maybe the 408hp 911 GTS engine.

That would be an awesome car.

Sounds as though "Sir" is looking for a Cayman!

I think you'll find 'Sir' already has a Boxster Spyder so unlikely to need a Cayman as well.

Besides, depending on how the Evora S goes, I would imagine an Evora 'RS' is on the way. Carbon roof, among other weight saving measures plus more from the toyota V6, intercooler perhaps? 400bhp should be a breeze. But such a car wouldn't be under £70k which would cause a stink no doubt.

I have a Boxster S, not a Boxster Spyder (roof too compromised for me).

An Evora RS would be cool. It is heavy .. if I get one, I will also get the forged wheels (about 3.3lbs lighter per corner).

I think you'll find that many manufacturers make more money on selling the options, financing and insurance than the car itself. All because most buyers just compare the base price and add the other stuff when they've chosen a model. Looks like Lotus is going toe to toe with Porsche on their sport+luxury offering, but the Evora looks like a cracking car, just an expensive one. And yes I would consider swappng my Cayman S for one next time around even tho the Cayman is such a fabulous car, it's just not as quick as it should be. And yes again I'd probably let myself be sold lots of extra toys to play with as well!
You're bang on. I read at the weekend that Porsche made on average £12.5k net profit on every car last year. Clearly they're not doing that on a vanilla £27k-ish (before tax) Boxster.

The guys at Hethel must read that and weep, no wonder their latest plan involves a lot of high margin, expensive cars.
