Just wondering who has had to cough up the most money to replace their Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and what their car was?

I'll be interested to see this myself - I've already figured that when Mrs DS's car is up for a change shortly here old skool 2002 Merc diesel (which can be fixed with a hammer) will not be being replaced with a diesel. Just this morning I noted that Mercedes Hull charge and extra £25 to service a car with a DPF; says it all really rolleyes

Friend of mine bought a 307 for his missus. Lots of short journeys never getting up to temperature.

2 dpfs @ a grand each and it now needs it again.

More than happy for people to take the piss. Mine is ok (touch wood) at the moment, but I think I am a candidate for a shafting. Having done some reading on this it would appear to be the final nail in the coffin for diesel for me. Better mpg, but higher costs everywhere else.

This scares me. I have a 407 HDi. the DPF along with DMF is sure to have me searching for a can of petrol and a field.

If my insurers are reading this - i'm KIDDING!

Yep, the servicing is far more expensive.

So what with Turbos (had two go on seperate cars) Injectors, DPF on top of the usual gremlins diesels aren't worth buying.

Friend of mine bought a Renault Megane for his Motorway/A-Road 30 minute commute every day.

Lots of journeys, always getting up to temperature

His DPF light comes on regularly and he's had to replace it more than once IINM. rolleyes

When I ordered my car, the salesman tried to talk me into DPF. Paying for one as an option!! I told him point blank that if they fitted one or tried to fit one, I'd walk.

Lucky you - I got stung on Merc prices. On a petrol 190E it was over £200 for a fuel pump, plus another £200 for the relay that controls it....

On the other hand, my focus tdci hasnt got a dpf, is perfectly acceptable in poke and very economical.

Not as much fun as my previous cars mind, but they couldnt carry a mountain bike and a kayak and people - and I've still got a motorbike for hooning.

Forgive me if there's some detectable regulatory requirement and this is a daft statement... but... why bother replacing it, why not just bypass it? It's only a bit of black smoke.

I 'think' the smoke test is tighter (less soot) for later DPF equiped vehicles - so could be an MOT failure on the smoke test.

That of course could be daft too (my statement, or indeed the test...!)

Another non-failure here anyway, '07-plate Laguna 1.9 DCi... I may get hacked off with it before anything gets a chance to fail of course.
