I have had 9mpg on a tdci mondeo (over a short distance and kicking its arse redlining it through the gears) and 75mp (on the computer) at 55mph in 6th gear following my mate who was towing his rally car

and had 0mpg (instant mpg) whilst towing uphill in a 2.0i auto granada

Have that every time I'm parked at the lights, regardless of what I'm driving...

It was cold. That'd do it.

Got 8 mpg current on my dad's Fabia diesel hehe Only for a few seconds though.

Other end of the scale, seen it flitter between 120, 160 and "----" (5th gear, no throttle).

I have a 15 min drive to work and if I'm entusiastic I can get 22mpg out of it (according to the trip computer).

My average is over 50 though.

How the fook did you lot get such bad MPG out of TDI's?

Where they Le Mans TDI racers?

Did somebody unbolt a turbo pipe before driving it?

Drill a hole in the tank?

Leaking fuel line?

Seriously how?
It Was A Rental.

I once drove a 2003(ish) Mondeo TDCi 130 estate down from Cumbria to Swindon and back again. Brim to brim calculation was 32mpg. Not really any better than the Civic Type-R I had at the time managed on similar runs.

meh the computer in my 328 says im doing an average of 3MPG, and slowly getting lower.

this might have something to do with the fact that the speedo/odometer no longer works, so its using fuel but im not going anywhere apparently hehe

So I shouldn't feel too bad that my Volvo Estate has dipped to 44mpg this week? Perhaps I can improve on that if I stop flooring it off the lights? I blame the government myself.

I get high 30s in the XF (3.0) and low to mid 30s in the XJ (2.7). On long journeys both will average well into the 40s.

I find all forced induction engines way off in terms of their clamied vs actual mpg. I don't know if it's how i drive, but turbo diesels seem to give me 20% less than they claim, the 135i was easily 30% less than claimed.

The z4m is giving me 25-26mpg which is 10% more than claimed

That's a bit like when you're in a traffic jam and the car beside you starts moving forward, and you feel like you're going backwards.... and you have to check your foot is actually on the brake pedal hehe

Have you observed trees and other objects moving beside you? You aren't just sitting on the drive revving the car are you?

Did they really?

That sounds like an excellent opportunity to mock them. Presumably they don't define "thrashing" anywhere in the contract?

The contract was with direct line, and I had to get them to throw their weight around to give the brand new Insignia to the 19 year old who had just been involved in an accident, brought back a new shape fiesta covered in st and smelling of hot mud and demanded something with more power....

Oh how I loved Enterprise rentals, they are so much faster than other cars!!! rofl

Jesus. That's appalling!!!! I have averaged 26mpg over the last 30,000 miles in my car, which has a 5.0L V8 petrol engine. I certainly don't drive to save fuel.

What's the point in paying 5 / 6p per litre more for diesel if you can get as near as dammit the same mpg out of a big old petrol lump?!?!??!?
