I had a Legacy estate on demo for a weekend of touring and got an indicated 39 mpg which fell some way short of what I was expecting. In addition, it didn't seem very torquey either - it needed revving to make progress, again, unlike say a VAG tdi engine.

Likely the two were connected, but in any event it came off my list at that point, given also that the CO2 wasn't that great either (I was looking for a new company car at the time).

Hmm well according to the papers Clarkson has one, though it had to be towed out of the snow by someone with a Jeep.
