record car breakdown recovery????

just thought id see if anyone has had a quicker breakdown recovery than i had this eve? my drive belt snapped on me pulling away from friends house 3 miles from home, thought id be able to get it home but a mile later its gettin a bit warm so pull over, would normally persuade a mate to give a hand sortin it out but thought as its the festive period most are already in the pub so rang the RAC, 10 minutes later the van arrives, 20 mins after that im home! iv used the RAC quite a few times over the years and they have never got to me quicker than a couple hours before! quite happy with that!

Ah right.

I managed to get recovered within 12 minutes - broke down on the road that an AA recovery guy lived on who was at home, but on call for them.

He was not happy about having to drive me 150 miles home when he could not fix it though

Hahaha, would you be?

By the way, I'm not sure they do this any more. I seem to recall someone saying something about some Euro-regulations that meant breakdown guys didn't have to drive far?

(If anyone has any info on this so I know I wasn't dreaming, that would be helpful)

The RAC must have improved quite a bit then, i was with them a few years back and they were a joke, would not join again if it was free !

I've had the misfortune to need the RAC about 10 times in the last 5 years - every time the service has been exemplary and I've never been left standing for more than 45 minutes, IMHO the best on the market by a long way

I'd agree with that too, always been quick and pretty sensible with it. Whether that was recovering a dead Land Rover from a motorway services, shifting a stricken Alfa GTV (who'd have thought it..?!) or tightening the fuel filter that was gasping air on our diesel box when it wouldn't go - got to love a Renault service - and he showed me an onboard video of his Ginetta doing a standing 1/4 mile too, decent chap.

First breakdown, ran out of fuel on M4 motorway, pulled on to hard shoulder and phoned the RAC, 4 hours later they gave up as they could not find me !
Second breakdown, exhaust fell off my van in West Wales, rang them again, 2 hours later patrolman rings me, says hes in Reading services and where am i ? Enough said i think. Muppets.

Faulty fuel gauge.

I have only had to use the RAC once, had a puncture and couldn't get the wheel off (Dealer hadn't used copaslip on the hub)

The contractor arrived within 30 minutes, but then had to borrow a torch from me (it was after midnight), didn't fill me with confidence, especially when he wanted to bash the alloy with a 14lb sledgehammer!

We tried the alternative of loosening the wheel and braking sharply from slow speed, that worked.

So, in conclusion, not entirely convinced about the standard of their subbies!

"Doesn't service his car" seems to tally with "a belief in bangernomics".

When I said "Avoid" all I meant was, "avoid buying a car from this man".
