The same way you'd insure any low volume / kit car . . . . . . . . . . . . . . although something tells me its not going to be cheap hehe

Tricky one - it is obviously unique and irreplaceable, but in terms of actual value it's not worth that much, it would seem (though that particular sale was not generally successful, so the car may fetch more now).

I'd guess it would be a very easy car to write off ,as it is unique and also massively difficult to repair, so the likelihood of a total loss claim is higher than that for say a 458 Italia given the same level of damage.

I may be wrong though - might be cheap as chips (or not!)

As a piece of Ferrari history it's probably worth a bit.

As a road-car it's not. Ugly and the handling probably isn't that well resolved.

Definitely one for the afficionado not the general petrolhead...

I'd love to have that and actually use it, although that would depend a bit on what it was actually like to drive- the nature of prototypes means that there will be more dogs than diamonds, and this may well be a dog.

Ugly? I think it looks brilliant. It's a mess but it looks like a serious bit of kit.

It looks like a 2nd-rate MR2 conversion. Proportions are terrible, and shut-lines are worse than your usual Ferrari fare...

If I was in the market, I might be viewing it in the same way as a sketch for a famous painting - Not as beautiful as the final piece, but interesting in its own right to see the work in progress.

Do I remember the auction of this car being covered on 5th Gear a few years ago? Or am I just imagining things?

I read somewhere it was a test mule for the Enzo or something like that. Not 100 percent on that though.
The very definition of a mule in fact.

It's remarkable that Ferrari can make so much money out of what should have been thrown away after development.
I'll bet they didn't "make" any money at all on it!
The cost to build it would have been covered by development. Going on to sell it afterwards means they have "made" some money out of it.

I'm starting to wonder how much they could charge for the all the other crap generated during this phase.

"See this used black tape? It doesn't stick to anything anymore but it was used to disguise the Enzo prototype headlight surrounds. Yours for £500 a metre."

Agreed - it's a collector's piece not a driver's piece. One to put safely in the attic not hang on the wall... wink

Are you suggesting that selling ferrari branded patchwork shopping bags is somehow not in-keeping with being the manufacturer of some of the worlds greatest supercars, and may even cheapen the brand rather than make it more desirable? The cheek!

I have to say, one of the biggest turn offs to ever owning a ferrari is that fat dribbling slob we've all seen in the local pub in a ferrari jacket and hat.
