I'm looking to fill up my car before the VAT increase on monday

(btw I don't really want this going in to a debate about the price of petrol being high etc)

I drive a 2000 Escort Finesse and want to know if it's going to be worth filling up with the 'advanced' petrol that Shell, Tesco etc sell.

They supposedly benefit modern engines and lasts longer. Mine is well looked after with a below-average mileage. During the week I do a lot of stop-start city driving but at the weekends I tend to go on long 200-miles motorway journeys. My city driving sees me go through a lot of petrol so I'm assuming the advanced stuff isn't going to be much of a benefit there.

With the age of my car is it worth spending the extra for it? It always makes my car drive a bit more lively but I'm more interested in saving more and getting as many pennies out of it as possible.

Do you mean the 97/98 RON stuff? In all my experiments with it it's made damn all difference to fuel consumption or performance - even in a Porsche 993 C2 (though in that case I was experimenting with the cooking stuff). If I were you I'd save your money and buy the regular unleaded.

Check your tyre pressures, will make a much larger difference to your cars performance.

Thanks guys. I had a feeling it would make little difference to consumption although it definitely did feel a bit faster when I used it. My tyre pressure is fine so that's not really going to be an issue

Yes, though you should have filled your tank yesterday! I think price of fuel went up today & then will go up again Tuesday?
Go and sit in a queue waiting for petrol to save to save a few pence wink

If its fuel consumption Shell have claimed that they've got a new formula for Fuelsave! Just stick that in and you'll be fine!
