Impressive - brand new Golf GT 1.4 (I think). It's the turbo'd and supercharged engine, and I couldn't believe it. A brand new hire car (less that 600kms on the clock), and it swallowed 2 adults, all luggage, and more than happily ate a few hundred miles, at over 80mph. Very impressive torque for what it is.

Unimpressive - X5. Enough said.

In reverse order:

Unimpressive: Work had the "new" Astra as a demonstrator. I usually try to grab any of these, just for the opportunity to see what new cars actually drive like and I think that this a 1.4 diseasel. What a gutless, bland, piece of unimaginative crap, with grey everywhere inside. Some nice options fitted, as it was a business demonstrator, but it left me with a complete sense of ho-hum and I'd rather stick with my 2003 Mondeo. They should simply have called this model the Vauxhall Anonymous. st

Impressive: Drove an ageing, worn out Fezza 360 on an experience day, round Rockingham. Sure it was de-tuned and the power was nothing more than my Corvette, but Jesus it stuck to the road/track like glue. The Vette is heavy(ish) and corners/drives well for an American, but this old Ferrari left me breathless and wanting more from it's cornering ability. Stunning!

Are they really de-tuned or rev limited?

Impressive: 360 Challenge Stradale. I knew it would be amazing but seriously, superceeded any and all of my expectations by a million. Fantastic.

Disappointing: VW Jetta diesel my Dad borrowed for a bit whilst his car was being repaired. Noisy, agricultural, harsh ride, too many vibrations, and slow. Not to mention the image problem.
