Hands up anyone who believes that TG actually takes place by chance ?

Examples :

  • When TG treated the Transit to 'a day' at the Nurburgring to attempt a 10 minute lap, an engineering contact at Ford later confirmed that they were there for several days. Oh yes - and Ford had already spent several days before hand, deciding what engine, transmission and axle ratio would give the best results.
  • Then there was the infamous Veyron - vs - light plane to London 'in a day' episode.
Just guess how many days of filming were needed to get 'one day' in the can. Go on, guess ....

[For instance, how very convenient that there was always a camera crew on hand when JC stopped for fuel, or stopped to adjust the Veyron's rear spoiler ....]

All TV is scripted, that doesn't really detract from my enjoyment of it.

I'll let you off because you've only been here 2 months but believe me, almost everyone on PH knows this because there is often a winge bag moaning about it.

Well, according to Ben Collins' book (he's the Stig, if you didn't realise that either!), the Veyron race was for real, although obvious written so that they would finish as close as possible. Once the race was finished he drove the car back to Milan, filming the various locations on the way.

"Source: Scott Adams, The Dilbert Principle:

The Master of the Obvious believes that while he was studying the writings of Plato, Sir Isaac Netwon, and Peter Drucker, the rest of the planet was watching "Three's Company" and eating Oreos. The "Master" feels a responsibility to share his wisdom at every opportunity. He knows that any concept -- no matter how mundane it might seem to him -- will be a cosmic revelation to the raisin-brains around him. "

yes Clarkson has also said something similar in the past, think it was about the SLR race. They do the actual race properly, so in this instance Clarkson driving to Oslo in one go, then after a couple of days R&R they go back over the route and film tracking shots and the like.

But let's be honest, who gives a flying fk if it's scripted, honestly.

Its not the fact that its scripted that bothers me. Its how badly scripted it is. It's so obvious and predictable that it becomes very unfunny. I havent bothered watching the last series and the current christmas specials, and i never thought i would say that! TG used to be the one program that i had to watch every week. frown

It's the ham acting that iritates me, the opening of the envelopes as if they've no idea what the next 'challenge' is.
