If you could opt for AWD in any car would you take it instead of the std transmission the car may have come with?

No. The Caterham is fine as it is. No need for additional complications of AWD.

if said car is FWD then yes.

I will never own another FWD car if I can help it.

Why the blinkers? FWD has it's place, and there are some excellent handling FWD cars about.

Personally, I view each car on it's merits - there are some st RWD cars about.

That's silly. That's like saying you never want to drink wine again because you've tried some awful £2.99 plonk from your local garage, whereas a decent bottle of real ale is lovely biggrin

With regard to the OP's question - absolutely not. I would have 4WD if I needed to drive the car off road on gravel, mud, snow etc. For tarmac use, I'll take 2WD every time.

Not sure who you're agreeing with Rob, but given your usual comments I doubt it's me.

The "Great handling and an all round superb car" comment next to the Citroen AX in your profile did raise a smile though... smile

whilst I agree there are some great FWD cars about (DC2 Intergra for example), they are still hamstrung by being FWD.

first time you try to pull out of a tee-junction in less than optimum conditions, you will get the point.

The AX GT was awesome!! biggrin Great little cars. I adore plenty of FWD cars, just as I adore a good beer. However, I prefer wine wink The two are just different. Now that I've got more money, given a choice of two road cars I'd like both to be decent RWD cars.
