sorry another fuel thread but they are only paying 12p per mile for a diesel now when it was 11p when fuel was 80p per litre a year or two ago.

surely it should now be about 14p per litre

It was only just reviewed by HMRC - new rates announced 1/12/10. They review every 6 months, I believe.

The full calculations are here. The litre rates aren't that far off the money.

It says on the link that the rates will also be reviewed if the price changes by more than 5%.
With the VAT hike I suspect another table will be comming out later this month.

Pity the private car rate is still at the 40p/mile (then 25p/mile) that is was in 2004 - all in the name of promoting the environmental benefits of driving a 'greener' car.

The fuel rates set by HMRC are guidelines - individual companies can pay more smile or less frown if they want to.

When are they going to change the private car business fuel rate?

I remember it changing to 40p for <=10,000 miles in around 2001, when petrol cost 77.9p/litre....

If they do pay more, then it's a P11D expense and they will have some of it back!

As I use my own car for work, I heartily agree that the private rates stuck at 40p/ mile for the first 10,000 should be looked at, and may well write a little note to my MP asking the same.
