I thought it bland: very disappointed, I wanted to like it. But then I was disappointed by the M6 too. I liked the Z3M coupe and love the Z1. I've been tooling around in an X5 for the last couple of weeks and quite like that so it's not an anti-BMW thing. I do however think they are over-rated.

The UK is a pretty obscure market, how many other countries have right-hand-drive cars with an odd mash of metric and imperial measurements?

The blandness is probably competence and balance. I adore feeling that in a car, but can understand why you might think it bland. The X5 is nowhere near as competent on road, so it's interesting that you like that, which supports my theory nicely.
