Sorry if this is old news but I certainly haven’t seen these before! What do we think? $2,000 per wheel, only in America.

I’m strangely undecided...

Imagine what that will look like once the brakes have been used a few times and spewed black dust all over them.

'Clear' for how long though? I don't imagine it would take long for brake dust to obscure them - then you'd have to take them off to clean the inner surface.

Not sure what effect they'd have on brake temperatures either.

Think these were at SEMA 2007, remember back then thought they were quite cool.

I thought they were just for show and not continuous use?.

First saw them in rap videos around 5 years ago?

Guess they didn't catch on because

a) Brake dust, good luck cleaning the inside of that bugger

&

b) People who bought probably found they had no brakes a little way down the road. How the hell can you cool brakes that are basically in a box.

I don't really see that they'd be any worse than old fashioned steel wheels with hub caps. They have pretty much no ventilation through the front.

They would be cool if you had plenty of money and a garage assistant ready to pop them off and clean them after use wink

As for the ventilation problems, could they not be designed in standard wheel form (i.e. with "vents") to reduce over heating?

I like them, but they're just show wheels. As mentioned, the brake dust will make them look awful and cooling will likely be a problem too.

Nice, but impractical.

Our roads are shattering alloy wheels at the moment.
I don't think they would last.

Also how would they cope with a red hot disc?

Not sure about the red hot disc, but a few years back, a guy from scotland had a custom motorcycle built, that had solid perspex wheels, and he rode the bugger everywhere, including from scotland to faro in portugal and back, without a hiccup. Okay i realise motorbike wheels are slightly different to car wheels, but in theory they should be okay if made from thick enough perspex. Would look a bit naff once the brake dust got on them though

Perspex is too brittle for a start.

These are not my cup of tea but they are just show wheels anyway.
