Over the course of a year and I'm spending more on fuel than everything else added together.

I voted fuel, but with short trips in and around town as well as old crumbly suspension parts it has been 50 / 50 this (last) year.

ETA: Insurance would tip it the other way, but is it a running cost scratchchin

I spend most on insurance, then fuel I'd imagine.

Go to my garage and look at the running costs of my Mondeo.

Seeing as I bought both my car and van at trade prices and both so far have cost me nothing to run other than servicing I'm spending far more on fuel than anything else

I think fuel, insurance, depreciation and "other stuff" are roughly equal, overall. I only cover 5000 miles a year.

Fuel - about £4k and rising
Insurance - £450
Tyres - £700
Servicing between £300 and £800 depending on whaich one it is
This year the BMW M warranty thing which will be about £900 i'm told
Depreciation = 0 as i'm never ever selling it

So fuel is something like two-thirds

For both my cars the two are very similar:

Elise:
Servicing and tyres plus depreciation: ~£750 a year
Fuel for 5,000 miles a year at 40mpg: ~£730.

320d:
Servicing and tyres plus depreciation: ~£1400 a year (I bought the car at trade price, so deprecation averaged over ownership period will be low)
Fuel for 10,000 miles a year at 45mpg: ~£1323.

For my motor racing, obviously fuel is by a long way the lowest cost (for the race car that is, the lorry to transport it at about 8mpg is another matter for the poor team trying to make a living!).

On the new V50, it's mostly depreciation.
On the Caterham, it's mostly fuel and I do most of the maintenance myself.
On the Mustang, it's nothing as it's not running at the moment (well, £130 insurance).

It was depreciation but now it is pretty much all fuel, which isn't too painful given tiny miles.

Isn't it equally fair to say depreciation 100% as you're never selling it, so will never get any of the purchase money back. Of course, you can write that off immediately if it's a keeper.

I hadn't thought of that frown

Since i bought it at 3-and-a-bit years old it'll drop less than the last one (i hope).

God it's expensive this car business

Just worked out that I spent £2.5k in the last year on fuel frown Thats a lot of money. Add the £800 for insurance and £125 for tax, £50 for MOT £600 for service parts and thats over £4000 on the car this year (well, last year) eek

And thats assuming I got the car for free!

ETA: thats 16ppm, which isnt so bad I suppose. I recon depreciation is about 3.8ppm so 20ppm in total.

yes

Maintenance costs me less than insurance and I'm guessing fuel does too. I could buy another car with the money I'm paying for insurance.

Easily fuel for me.

My 993 isn't depreciating and I'm an old bugger so my insurance is cheap.

For my R19TD- work and back and thats about it.

1200 miles a month.

In the last year at 40mpg thats 30G a month, or 360G/Year. Call it £5.50 a gallon average thats £1980 on fuel.

Other expenses all inclusive-
Insurance- £300
Tax- £220 (2 six monthers)
Windscreen- £110
MOT test- £29
Services x 2- £40
Radiator replaced but I had a spare so £0
Wing, bonnet, headlight and bumper replaced due to a crash- again i had all the spares so £0

Total ~£700

Stupid robbing government tossers. Fuel is my second biggest outlay next to my mortgage every month.

Fuel =£7200

Servicing = £500
Tyres = £1800
The dreaded "D" = £24000
Insurance = £1700

Fuel is the least of my worries, hopefully the depreciation will start to tail off!
