co-operative do it, it also covers you for cars that dont have an existing insurance policy on them.

im 20 and i was fully comp on my last car and it gave me doc on pretty much any car plus it was the cheapest cover i could find.

i got caught driving a mates polo that didnt have any insurance on it (he needed someone to drive it home after its purchase) and i genuinely thought i was going to get points and fined but the police gave my insurance a call and it turned out i was covered.

i really would check that though just incase the guy on the other end of the phone was talking bs but it does say on my policy that i have doc and at 20 thats pretty damn good.

was only 700 a year on a 1.9 turbo diesel peugeot 306.

As E30 owners, we must throw in a mention of our fine automobiles at any given chance. hehe

I used to have it with Bell but they stopped it. I'd like it back but never found anyone that offers it for under 25's. I found it most handy for small things like popping to the shop in one of the other cars on the drive if it was blocking mine in, saved the hassle of getting someone to let me out etc.

Quinn direct used to offer it, I had it last year on my policy. However, they nearly went out of business and they had to reformat their cover and remove a lot of liabilities in their cover that were costing them a lot of money or causing them problems. One of the big ones was kids insuring crappy sheds and then driving something a lot faster and more powerful day to day, then having accidents in them, while effectively fronting.

When I was sent an offer of renewal I was surprised, because I thought they were shutting down as soon as their last policy was up and they weren't renewing. However, the offer of renewal came with a list of updates and changes to the policy which would come into effect, with the "Drive other cars" clause being removed from under 25 year old's policies to bring them into line with the rest of the insurance market.

Have you asked the insurance company? perhaps it is an add-on you could pay for?

While you may have a reasonable car, the 3rd party rule is set on age because many people below 25 are driving 1.0L sheds and giving them free reign will mean they are covering a 20 year old chav to drive his mates/uncles/dads subaru/bmw/ferrari etc.

Would you like to cover that for £800?

Hi there,

I work in the insurance industry and I'd go as far as to say that no 'standard' insurance policy in the UK that would allow you to drive other cars when there is not already an insurance policy in force on that vehicle. With the new laws being put in place ,(if they havent already been) it will be illegal to own a vehicle (without it being declared SORN) and not have it insured. Im also under 25 and have looked for policies out there that will allow me to drive other cars third party, and it isnt easy finding one! There are insurers out there that wil cover you- but will have alot of endorsements behind them and could turn out to be very costly- have you had any prices from anywhere? Id advise you to call around places to get a bespoke quote, rather than ploughing through the internet.
