Why would you trade those in for scrappage, I really hope some of these escape their fate!

if you have a look on 28dayslater.co.uk and search for RAF Thurleigh, there's a few on there. There's one which really shows the scale of things but I haven't found that one yet.

Some of those cars look lovely - shocking waste.

Got a link to where these pics are coming from?
I know this ins`t how the world works, or why the scheme was though up in the first place. But it seems outrageous to crush all those 4x4 when the emergency services are struggling in the recent bought of snow. Why not use these to ferry nurses and the like back and forth to work etc. I suppose common sense and government schemes don't go hand in hand, they have already paid £2k for them, in these drastic times of laying off fireman and increasing university fees, why not use this field of soon to be scrap metal to the countries advantage. In terms of CO2 which is apparently warming the world, why not sell them to Mexico or Africa, even at scrap value, at least the majority of them have got catalytic converters and are a lot more fuel efficient then the cars they are currently using.

I'd have thought they could export them to 3rd world countries where old bangers are sought after and usually kept on the road for many years.

Sickening, that these cars are wasted, I feel outraged at this.

Some impounded cars are not woth the fuel for the tow truck to remove them.
Some are but our spitful system take pleasure in asserting its power over the public and crushing your posessions, even the wrong ones.

Sadly all those cars pictured will meet their fate in the crusher.

braking them for spares would make the Gov't a fortune but joined up thiking never was a Gov't strong point

That's like a "Where's Wally?" but with cars - just trying to locate the Fiat Coupe and failing so far...

I do spot a blue Ford Puma though - hopefully not a Racing version, although it looks like the correct colour for it...

Edit: sliver Puma too, top left (and beater to a Puma comment by previous poster...)

It's not a vitara, it's an ML, and the answer is an Aixam.

Strathclyde Police took an Audi Q5 off a local hood under proceeds of crime and regularly roll it out for press and TV. Stickered up like a traffic car but don't think its used on the beat so to speak. On a side note, it always bothers me when Top Gear/5th Gear destroy/ruin a perfectly good car. Be it a shed or not it just doesn't seem right.
I guess you hate watching action movies then when they destroy loads of fantastic cars for our viewing pleasure!

Its the bullst scrappage scheme.
Note that cars >2001 are subject to the new taxation system. Hence, I think it was a crafty way to remove as many as the older models off the road.

Far too many of those would keep other (older) models running. THAT to me is true green motoring rather than a discounted tin stbox from Korea.
