So what do you think will happen?

(a) it's got a bit expensive but but cars will continue to get more economical and the majority who don't care about cars will use less and less fuel which will balance out the 15-25mpg motorists. Everything will be fine for ever.

(b) it will get very expensive and stuff we do at the moment - like getting to work - won't be affordable (eg,mortgage £700 a month, fuel £1000 a month). We'll struggle on somehow...

(c) the population continues to increase whilst the oil price goes up and the amount left goes down. People get a nasty shock as they realise it's not about driving, but food. Without oil food doesn't get moved (and in the slightly longer term it doesn't get produced). Oil producing countries export less and less and eventually there's so little being tankered out that the world changes. The UK government steps in to control and ration the fuel supply. It's like WWII except everyone and his dog drives a car in 2011 and over the preceding 100 years, oil has enabled us to completely dismantle local economies and food supplies. You drive to Tesco on your last tank but there's nothing on the shelf and nothing on the way. Civil disorder is an anaesthitised phrase to describe what happens next as people start to fight for food.

I like my cars as much as the next PHer but does anyone else worry about this stuff???
