Quick look in the 'fides tells me that you can have a V8 Soarer for LITERALLY shed money.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=415

Now a bit of research tells me average mpg, Expensive to repair.
But V8... not slow in a straight line.
Coupe

What's not good? Insurance seems steep, but can't find a group listing for it.

edit:

As a plan, if it breaks or something happens to it.
Whip out the massive v8 and plonk it in a widened Locost.

I don't know where you buy your sheds, but mine only cost about a hundred quid.

Love them. I have, however, only driven one for about 25 minutes. frown

Is there a better v8 for that money?

Reliable too.

The older ones are FAR better than the newer ones. Good cars. Not sports cars by any means, but very nice big power wafters, especially the V8 one, (I think it was the V8).

Pistonsheds money is £1k.

They seem very waftable. But at 4.8m long they're a big SOB.
Sounds like it'd be ideal to waft to Le Mans and back this year...

I know, but that's a metaphor. They don't literally go out every week and try to buy a small wooden house to keep the lawnmower in.

They are massively cheap, I am surprised at the money! I did very much like the look of one I saw a while back. What's the worst that could happen? hehe

A friends mother had one, everything inside was in Japanese, so all the toys were useless. The steering rack broke, I think it's been in a shed ever since, this was prob 5 years ago.

had the V8 version, absolutely loved it, by no means a cheap motor to run or maintain

If you're lucky you might find a 2.5 twin turbo manual. Not exactly a sportscar, but a lot more so. That said I can't imagine it being as bulletproof as that V8.

I'm biased smile, but I think a Soarer is a proper GT car for virtually no money (just don't expect to be wowed by the interior). The trick, as with all used cars that cost a lot when new, is not to buy one that needs expensive OEM parts.

There's a lot of information out there:

Soarer World (UK)
Lexus Soarer Owners' Club (UK)

Australian Lexus Soarer Club (er.. Australia)
Soarer Central (Australia)
Planet Soarer (Australia)

Translations are available for the touch screen (the switches are all in English), and plenty of used spares to fix the rack problem.

I was, and I did, but it cost a lot more than an equivalent auto. Still, at least there's a considerable demand for the manual bits. smile

How does that work then? You're driving along and something unusual pops up on the display so you grab your Japanese-English dictionary to work out whether engine death is imminent.
