I wouldn't say it was a slow car.
Also yes, its not fast at all by any standard, but not slow. OP will probably realise once they've learnt to trust the car a bit, that they way to get one to shift is to mercilessly, endlessly spank it. They respond best when you drive like that, and they dont really break.Summer2008 paid£1150 for a H plate UK MX5 for 18yr old daughter not spent a penny on it since apart from Mot's (never failed) and a set of standard alloys with new tyres off eBay for £45. It was sorned in October whilst she's at uni, today this article inspired me to put a new battery on it (£30) and tax it,for the last couple of hours I've been caning it around loccal B roads with a stupid grin on my face , only come in because it's too cold and I don't fit in it with the roof up. It's probably going to need the sills patching for the mot next month and is probably still worth a grand, how can a car this fun be so sensible financially? And why don't I feel embarrassed when driving it like I do in my wifes CLK?

Hell yeah. Mine has been driven on its doorhandles for 16000 miles now. I'm a ham fisted pillock. And NOTHING has broken that wasn't me being a prat. Best car I've owned, it makes me laugh just popping to the shops. McAndy said:
I've test drove a Mk2 10th Anniversary 30 minutes ago...my BM felt like a marshmallow on stilts on the way home! I'm going to drive a few more to understand how they're supposed to feel, but I shall almost certainly be purchasing a Mk2 1.8 (all being well) soon!
They do kinda ruin you for 'normal' carsOR, if youve got loadsa money - get a new one with 20% off !!!!

I always have to have a MK1 tucked away, plenty of naff stuff out there (But even they're worth something). I suppose for a forecourt example that price isnt bad, id always go for one thats only been in the country a short while (As a rule id never touch a UK Car - 9/10 they're rot boxes) and dripping with JDM goodies (No Chav Tastic spoilers/venom wheels pls here!) nice split rims/deep dish, Tein/Ohlin coilovers, and a quaility Stainless exhaust.
They are so simple to work on, and parts plentiful and cheap...and they make a great track day car.
Gigidy Gigidy Gooooo....

Just put this in the mx5 forum but

Reasons why I shouldn't? So far, insurance may be "interesting" and unsure if it would be great for running to work in.

I had a 1992 model (we call them Miata) and it was a hoot. In buying a used car, never do it until a trusted mechanic checks it over! Then sum up costs of bits and pieces to make it whole versus purchasing a whole one. Numbers don't lie.
As a retired Snap-On dealer in San Diego, I used to call on Monster Miata. A great big Ford (or Corvette) V-8 in one of these will provide more than adequate sensory overload.
