Cars of note that my dad had.

1968 Jaguar 420G - him and mum were at acutions to buy a maxi, came away with this smile I remember it well despite being only about 5 at the time.

1977 Series II Jaguar 4.2 XJ in lavender
1980 Series II Jaguar 4.2 XJ in signal red - BUR 85T, lovely car
198? Series III 4.2 XJ in signal red - not so good

BMW 628, 850.
1970's Rolls Royce
Jaguar XJS

and a few other funnies recently.

Currently still has his 1986 'ish Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, an MG TF and Skoda Octavia VRS.

I do wonder where I've got my appreciation of cars from sometimes smile

This car was well before my time and I never got to see it but really wish I had. The picture is of my Father aged around 23, so mid sixties, the car is a Buckler.

Can't choose One but my top memories were:

Austin Mini Cooper (998).........He used to rally it

Ford Zodiac.............................This was a big change from the Mini - didn't impress his girlfriend enough though

Ford Cortina Mk III GT 2000....Can't believe he let me use this as soon as I'd passed my test

Daimler Sovereign 6................As he described it - Fred's Folly - a lifelong dream

Hmm. Some quality, some sh*te.

My absolute favourite was his 1972 Merc 280SE (non-stretched) limo. Gold, huge, thirsty, luxurious, barge- (and gansta-) tastic. He did about 100 miles a year in it. It should have been in a museum. Bought it then immediately needed to widen the gates at the front of the house.

He had one of the early Turbo Diesel VW Transporters as a trial from his work (around 1986/8?) which was brilliant. Loved it.

His Mini Clubman (which I learned to drive in, aged about 10, then aged about 12 I buried it in to his caravan. Oops.) was good because it was the first car I could fit in and reach the pedals. I crashed it in to his caravan whilst "playing" in the drive.

He had a transit minibus when I was REALLY young - say maybe 1984, which he painted black with red stripes a la A-Team, as a treat for me and my twin brother.

He had a slight foray into american metal too. I can't remember exactly what it was, but he had a HUGE bench-seated Jeep thing (I believe it was an early Cherokee), looked mid-late 70's. Literally huge, bigger than a Nissan Patrol, bonnet release from the front grille (no interior catch). I remember him saying it did half the mpg of the Merc. Scary.

And he had a 1988 Chrysler LeBaron ragtop. Metal headlamp covers, digital and voice dash, very cool.

And my mum had a blue 1969 (I think) Mustang, which was her dream car having had one in the States. She wins hands down. Cool lady, my ma.

And there was a spattering of dross. Marina, Viva, Renault 18, Pug 104, Renault 4 van, 2CV, Allegro, plenty of forgettable rubbish.

My Dad had an E30 325i with a performance exhaust on it, which as a child I thought was brilliant. He'd had it rebadged as a 316 so it wouldn't get stolen, which used to prove entertaining when lesser cars would try to race him.

Remember he used to let people try to drag-him off roundabouts on dual carriageways, he'd sit alongside them matching their speed, then turn, wave, and plant it and off we'd go. Nice car that.

Drives a 206GTi now :/

I've already posted up my dad's cars, but then thought my mum has a reasonably mixed batch too!

The good:

1967 Triumph Vitesse - there's a picture of me at the wheel, standing on the seat, aged about 3.

Bright orange 1973 VW Beetle - bit of a marmite car, but I loved it.

1975 MG Midget - she's still got it. Fully restored about 10 years ago following an accident, but winner of various polishing competitions. Tiny, gutless, shaky little car (I've been in much nicer midgets to drive), but looks absolutely stunning.

Her other current car is a Merc A class diesel auto, which is perfect for her and doesn't feel too bad to drive on the odd occasions I've had to. And she's inherited my dad's old MG 1300 which has also been fully restored, although it's more of family car for us to share.

The bad:

A succession of 1970 Bedford HA vans that my dad used for lugging disco equipment around and used as 2nd car by my mum.

1972 Austin 1300 in turquoise. Bought ~ 1982, lasted 2 months before the steering column snapped and she drove straight on at a bend and parked it in a bush.

There were a pair of Suzuki Gran Vitara jeeps that were pretty dreadful, one of which she slid off the road on a oil spill bend at 50 mph and the airbag didn't go off. She then bought a suzuki jimny which was even worse, bearing in mind she commuted 70 miles a day on a lovely A road.

Hello all. First post from a long time lurker. Be gentle! My Dad's list

Armstrong Siddeley x 2
Humber Sceptre
Wolseley 6/110
Ford Zodiac Executive 3.0 litre
Rover 2200 TC
Vauxhall Ventora 3.0 litre MK1
Vauxhall Ventora 3.0 litre Mk11
Ford Consul 2500
Volvo 244DL
Volvo 244GL
BMW 520 Red
BMW 520 Gold
Rover 820 Si
Peugeot 306 XRDT
VW Passat x 2

I would have to say that my favourite was the Wolseley which was a big luxurious old bus that he had just as my interest in cars was becoming apparent. Remember the long journeys to Devon for our holidays when Mum and my brother and sister were sleeping and I was allowed to sit in the front with Dad, reading the map and looking for landmarks.

Ahhh, I remember my dad's best car well!

An M reg Scorpio Cosworth Ultima Estate - 24v. It was one of the first bug-eyed Scorpios in the country and at the time it caused quite a stir in petrol stations!

I still remember the leather being the best ever to have graced a car (still remains true today) and the simple abilities of the car were perfect. I seriously considered getting one as a cheap run around, rather than using my V8 Audi, but against modern machinery they aren't hugely economical and the way I'd drive it, even less so hehe

'twas a superb car, though. Not my Dad's, but identical... (dad's had black leather and was M reg)

Mine had a red Peugeot 505 NA diesel, just like this one

I thought it was fast. And then it broke down. Still should be standing somewhere.

hard choice...

would have to be either one of these:

or one of these:

Unfortunately I never saw the Bristol on the road, only as a rotten shell growing weeds in the garden. Still have the headlights from it though!

No pics to hand but the ones I remember were.

Lancia Fulvia (S2)
Fiat 124
Lancia Flavia Coupe
Golf (Crock of ste)
Lancia Prisma
Lancia Thema
Scooby Forester(s).

Of all of them I liked the Flavia the best closely followed by the Prisma.

Oddly enough if I had the time / funds I'd like a Montecarlo or (if I won the lottery) an 037 or S4.

Tough to select from a pretty fine collection over the years.

Renault 4
Reliant Scimitar
De Tomaso Pantera
Ferrari 365 GT 2+2
Jag XJS
Porsche 911 SC Targa
Aston Martin V8 Saloon
Ferrari Testarossa
Porsche 928S4 x 2
Mercedes 500SEL
Ferrari 365 GT4 Berlinetta Boxer
Ferrari 456 GT
Porsche Cayenne S (current)

And 4 x Austin Healeys along with the above two of which he still has.

I think ultimately my favorite was the Testarossa because he had that nearly new from 1985-89, I was 11 and it was the young boy's poster car along with the Countach!

My mum ended her driving career in a (1990s) RS2000. Great car.

I know a very posh old lady - friends with the royals type posh - who runs around in a battered old F reg Mini 1000 with bull bars on. Eccentric as anything but a very cool old bird.
