I'm thinking of going to AAS in Newcastle to get a new exhaust for my MX5 (seen them mentioned above).

As for the OP, I'd suggest looking for a local specialist who can fabricate and fit a custom system for you. It'll probably be cheaper than buying an aftermarket system and fitting that (or getting it fitted) and you get their aftercare too.

Sorry for the delay, I think it was about 350 for mine, can't remember exactly as it was quite some time ago. My mate got robbed 600 for a mild steel one from Kwik Fit yikes
£600? Jesus christ!!!

I'm booked in with AAS now. Spoke to a bloke called Stewart there the other day (the owner I think), was quite happy talk through what I wanted and how to get it. Since I have no middle box on my car a cat back system would make no real benefit over a backbox-only job, so I'm getting a stainless steel, straight-through back box with a 2.5" outward rolled Cosworth style tip. I talked a good bit about the sound I wanted, the noise level etc and how to go about that, and Stewart talked me through how they do it, basically taking the exhaust off, listening to the car without it and then tailoring the backbox to customer spec based on what they are working with.

Seemed like a good bloke and was upfront and honest about how to get what I wanted didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need, or treat me like I was an idiot. Dropping my car off early in March to get it done, so I will report back with my findings, but I'm optimistic. The stuff they had laying about their workshop looked ace, and the bench with the premade tips on is ace, so much stuff to pick up and look at and they were more than happy to bring a few outside to hold over the exhaust of my car to make sure I was getting the look I wanted.
