RE: Audi A9: Will It Be A Coupe?
Discussion
jeez, so many people saying oh dear yet another audi. why bother commenting? people say just buy an A5....
Audi are giving people the choice to have an interior even more luxurious than an A8....the A5 doesn't have that. people saying it's a stretched A5, it's more likely to be an A8 with 2 doors and a nicer interior.
to be honest, i say fair play, the more choice out there the better. if it were down to many people on PH, it seems we'd all be driving the exact same car.

Would you expect comments any different on a thread about Audi? Until they produce something that goes like a TVR, looks like an Aston and costs less than a mini Pistonheads will not be impressed and these threads will remain very predictable and boring.
The car is in keeping with the times and the car will sell very well in Audi's other big markets (Asia Pacific and North America I would guess).
There is unfortunately no pleasing a Pistonhead.

Makes me laugh, all these comments.
What is wrong with having choice? If you don't like it, don't buy it.
With generic platform and part sharing, manufacturers can build niche models with relatively low development costs. Why shouldn't they as a business try and take some sales from the competition? If they can't compete with the traditional manufacturers in a certain model range then it will simply be loss making and knocked on the head anyway.
I am all for choice and let the market decide what is worthwhile and what isn't.
I agree - no one is suggesting the government intervene and stop them building this car. Just as car enthusiasts it'd be nice if they didn't just start with an A4 and take/add 6 inches up and down the model line. Audi used to stand for something, now other than impressing people in Bovis homes I'm not sure what they offer over the competition. What is wrong with having choice? If you don't like it, don't buy it.

so many people fall for these compromise 'niche models too far'..crossover marketing bks..you never wanted it till the marketing men suggested you needed it!..Porsche Panamera/Cayenne, BMW X6 is the best example-what the fk is that about, BMW 5 series coupe or whatever it is called, Range Rover Evoque-(making a 2wd model should give 'em the hint) anything Lady Victoria is envolved in should put any sane person off to start with!!...I guess there are a lot of people out there with more money than sense..good luck to them

Away from the letter writing, I don't particularly think it is a valid car, whilst the CL is a world away from the A5...surely the CL is not a big enough seller in its own right to warrant a rival to try poach buyers from??
It just seems to be a car for the sake of being a car.

They're not as bad as mercedes at trying to fill niches:

its a tricky one, cos it is obviously designed for the American market where currently the CL has had a niche and done so well so if Audi said we won't sell them in the UK we'll aim for America, China and LHD europe, we'd all moan, however they decide to give us the option to buy by selling a few over here and yet we all still moan! Surprised to read so many good comments about the Audi A2, one even described it as iconic? Maybe i misread it or maybe this isn't pistonheads, surely anyone with a pulse would roll an A2 within 5 minutes of driving it...
