This car could set new depreciation records. The CL depreciates badly. The A8 has a terrible record for holding value. Just imagine what a combination of the two could do.
VAG Creating a Phaeton competitor?
Except, I want a Phaeton but I have no desire to drive an A9.

We are missing the A2, now that was a clever Audi and so futuristic.
There's one of those coming too.

trouble is, the Audi's are starting to look a little bit boring. many models looks the same even i cannot easily tell the difference anymore between the A4/A6 at a glance as they just look far to similar. Same at looking at an A6/A8.
Only distinctive Audi's at the moment are the R8, TT, A3 (finally no longer has the Golf jellymould), A1, Q7

I was talking about competition in the "massive depreciation" area.

So no, I don't want a new one biggrin

Audi.....German for overkill.

Too many models in the line up now, they have a model to compete with each of their rivals, & an inbetween level also. LED lights apart, i believe they've nailed BMW & Mercedes in the styling department.

I saw an A7 on the road for the first time yesterday, looked OK although I expect big cars to be practical so prefer estates.

Audi could have stuck to A4, A6 and A8 and just offered coupe versions of them rather than adding "new" model names for the coupe versions.

As for the A9 (or A8 Coupe wink) I'm sure it'll be a perfectly competent mile-muncher to blend into the rest of the bland conservative luxury car market.

I'd say this applies to the BMW range now too, at a glance, I find it easy to mistake the new 3&5 and 5&7.

To be honest, I'm not sure why the fuss, I want choice (in no position to buy one but..)As a consumer, I want to spend my money on what I want.

I'd rather makers developed new ideas, blended concepts etc - it's how we evolve.

I'm waiting for next year's new models from Audi -

Audi A2 - Petrol/Diesel/Hybrid 6 door 5 wheeler pick up / hatchback.
Audi A11 - 3 wheel drive convertible estate.

No need for spy shots, we know what they will look like.

Bentley versions will be added 2 years later and will feature JSK / ALT / BRK and WZR as standard.

it is obviously designed for the American market where currently the CL has had a niche and done so well so if Audi said we won't sell them in the UK we'll aim for America, China and LHD europe, we'd all moan, however they decide to give us the option to buy by selling a few over here and yet we all still moan!
Good point.

The 'too many niche cars' comments suprises me.
Surely the only person who can complain about too many model options Audi FD.
As consumers, the more choice the better IMO as no one is forcing you to buy anything you don't want.

I forgot to mention - the Bentley version will also feature Walnut inserts on the standard 27" rims.

Are people actually moaning about 'too much choice'? The way I read it they're saying they'd like the 'choices' to actually be different from one another beyond being a slightly stretched version of the car in the class below.

yes

This.
Merc are equally guilty, but at least they offer some interesting choice amongst the crop.
They offer SLK, SL, SLS, G wagon,...

The only interesting cars audi make are the R8 and the RS models, which BMW (M-models) and Merc (55/63/65 AMG) offer as well.
Tbh, without the R8, the linup could just as well be Kia's, but less reliable.

Edited to add: As for the dullness of their range, I do also think the A5 is the best looking car in it's class, but imho it's the only one in their range that gets that title.

Whilst the one I wanted to buy last year was the GLK, which isn't available in the UK frown

For a consumer I don't thinks there's such a thing as too much choice, only too little decision making ability or imagination.

I'm not convinced by much of Audi's current range (particularly the generic A4/6/8 look), but in my opinion the A5 is still a better looking coupe than it's main competitors, so I'll reserve judgement on a new A9 until I see one in the flesh.

Just because you can't afford one, or don't like them, doesn't mean other people can't/don't.
