Picking up a second hand car next weekend, its got a tape player up front and 10 disc changer in the boot - both are unbranded.

Now I would normally just rip them out and stick something else in - but the built in display above the stereo unit displays all the information.

If I just change the unit what will happen to the display? It also displays the heating controls and some other things.

There are no steering wheel controls.

I would just like a cd player up front with ipod thing - but would like the display to work, or at least not look rubbish.

Car is a 54 plate shogun (warrior spec)

You'll almost definitely lose the display in terms of radio station and radio related text.

However, display will still work for all other things.

Display on new unit will negate the need for the built in display.

In short, it won't be an issue!

Can you not replace the CD changer with an iPod thingy that reports to the head unit as if it's a CD changer? Win all round.

Just shove an adaptor in the tape slot!

Not bothered about loosing the stereo info off the screen as long as the rest will still work!

To be honest the tape deck looks rubbish and really dates the dash and is actually quite confusing to work.

The cd changer must be a 'known' brand - do you think if i can find out whos it is a newer head unit will control it?

Why bother, cd changers are yesterdays news really. Any decent head unit will play from usb sticks/sd cards so you can carry 1000 LPs with you.

To be fair nearly all rubbish head units do that now too, including the £30 ones from Lidl.

You are right I have more songs on my phone than I have in my cd collection so waste of time getting it to work!
