Let's say you had in the region of £10k to play with (maybe stretchable up to £15k for something worthwhile) to buy a convertible for 4 months.

You don't want it to cost a fortune in depreciation, it must be very reliable and not have much by way of costs over the ownership period (economy/tax is irrelevant but nothing prone to major breaks) - just the most fun car to drive for the summer period while getting most of the money back afterwards.

Fire away with what you'd get? The MX-5 is the obvious one, but what else? Let's hear your suggestions! Nothing older than 3/4 years though please.

Cheers

A Caterfield of some sort would be my choice this summer.

What about a Z4 or a 350Z?

For the laughable insurance and minimal depreciation I would get a Westfield SEi with a 2.0l Zetec, XE or Duratec. Best fun you can have on the public roads, superb club and not as common as most cars.

Failing that, for the driving experience, I would go for a classic like a Frogeye Sprite, again no depreciation and laughable insurance.

FWIW the insurance on my XI is £159 fully comp!

I think I'm not really after something like a Caterfield, it's not really my kind of thing at this stage, more a roadster shape car I'm thinking.

Maybe a stretch to get a nice 350z, or save some pennies and get a slightly less nice one.

Edit - 2nd on the S2000 - was looking at one myself, but for some unfathomable reason, the insurance is insane (24, male blah blah...) Hence the 350Z - pretty much a pipe dream until I get out of Norway though - bloody taxes :/

So I thought the 350Z looked interesting so I went to do an insurance quote, it costs MORE than my Aston Martin. Who decides this stuff!

ETA: Ahh that was with the GT Pack, it goes down significantly without.

Too old for me I think, Z4 is currently winning.

What do we think of this?

Z4 M Roadster for £16k, how much should I expect to lose over 4 months and selling at the end of summer after about 6k miles?
