Can you tell me why about 90% of you here love the MX5 so much? I admit the Mk1 is a pretty car but that's the only thing I can see. Oh and it's RWD.
Closest I've come to driving one is just a passenger in a mates. It wasn't bad but I couldn't understand why you rave about them. I did consider buying one though but I had a Mini instead.
So then sell me an MX5 please I would like to know the reason behind your love.

I'm in the same boat as you! I've never driven one or been in one. But I've never understood why they are so loved on PH. In all honesty, I wouldn't ever dream of buying one...(I expect death threats for my last comment)

why didn't you try one before you bought the mini? It would have answered your question.

I've got a feeling the answer might have been mentioned on here before.

Mini is more fun to drive, but it's not just driving an MX5 that's good. For the price that they are, there's not much that compares in these categories:

Reliability.
RWD
Handling
Nippy (130hp in a <1000kg car can be considered nippy)
Convertible
Good looking
All for £1000-1500, not much compares. That's what sold it for me. A combination of all of the above. There are plenty of cars out there that excel at each of these, but after a lot of research, in that price range I couldn't find anything that compares. The mini comes pretty close.

I'd been a passenger in one and that's why I thought I don't get it and bought the Mini.

I'm just curious.

I haven't got one, but I do love them and may get one in a few years as en entry to RWD.
But as for their popularity.. I'd put it down to:
- RWD
- Cheapness
- Reliable enough
- Plenty around so parts will still be obtainable

Plus the great chassis, lightness of it and steering.
The very low down ride and roof down fun will also no doubt factor in..

RWD, light, fun, honest, agile, reliable, great steering, great gearchange, soft-top, makes a brum-brum sound. What's not to like?
