Trust me, I read the whole thread. You are making an awesome amount of assumptions about people you have no idea about. You also seem to be making a hell of a lot of assumptions about life in general. Nothing is ever certain in life!
When would you consider life as 'stable'?
Everyone in this thread have made blanket statements about me my situation, so why get pissed if I do the same?
I don't think people have made blanket statements, I honestly think most people are just trying to impart advice borne out of experience. What I think has frustrated most people is that you aren't reading or acknowledging some of the genuinely good advice.

At university I had to be flexible. Please read the thread for exceptions.

University is over within 3 years and I wasn't in the same position I am now
To my point above - there are not many people that can confidently state exactly what they will be doing in three years. A decision to take a mortgage should not be taken lightly, and ALL eventualities should be considered. I had a pretty stable job and life in the UK, and then got offered the opportunity of a lifetime, which also involved moving to the US. I could in no way have predicted or planned that 3 years previously.

The only blanket statement i've made is where you got the savings from? A genuine question as you've said you've been in full time education since you were 21. What part time job have you had to be able to save up such a large amount?

I'm expecting a childish reply, but it's a genuine question as if it's from The Bank of Mum & Dad, which if you don't answer properly must be were it's from. I don't think you've earned that money - but if you have shouldn't you be paying your parents for living with them at this age? Afterall you're an adult not a child...oh, wait.....

It's a bit hard to read the thread with your inane, childish posts. I think you need to learn that not everyone will agree with you in life, especially on the internet. TBH all i was doing was trying to look at it from both sides, i don't see where all this agression has come from, and i was trying to genuinely help with advice.

If you were to read from the beginning of the thread you will see how over time I've become sick of the posts. Its gone from what appears to be advice to disagreement and bhing, leading to more aggressive and pointless responses from both sides

Gareth, calm down chap.

It's going a little wayward at times (welcome to PH) but keep calm eh? Overall the thread is good-natured so don't worry too much.

We're always here if it goes way off.

Do you fancy deleting the first page and changing the title to:

'renting is for retards and kit cars for kids'

???

I kept the cash in the bank and carried on saving, when my girlfriend (now wife) and i started discussing living together we did the sums and found to our delight that between us, we had enough deposit to buy a nice semi in a nice area, we did so, did it up, made money, remortgaged, sunk money into a business venture which grew, brought a plot of land, built it using the spare time afforded by owning your own business, made a load, business going REALLY well, brought a mindblowing piece of land and built my current house that is now comfortably into 7 figures value wise and a business that is still growing strong to support all the travelling and material things i could ever want.

Without wishing to sound vulgar, we are set. i am 34.
fk me! Good for you. At the rate I'm going, having blown all my money on cars and stupid (but fun!) things -Not many tens of thousands but a fair old whack.
It's a case of I don't regret doing it but in a quiet moment I occasionally regret what it cost me (not just in financial terms). As it stands I'm struggling to save for a house at 27. I should think I'll be 30 before I buy my first home frown

Gareth, may I suggest that you take some time out to calm down and then come back and read the thread from the beginning to see how you came across at the start? Imagine a prospective employer reading it and try to imagine what impression they would get of you.

PS - have you ever considered a career in PR? wink
