Just read all the posts since I posted last night all 11 pages worth. I only kept Reading as I was actually interested to see what this vehicle was.

Not sure why he will not say and I'm kind of interested in what kit car you could buy and wouldn't lose money on even if it needed a new engine? I get the impression that the price was £6k?? But whatever a new engine NOT recon would be £5k upwards so risky but highly unlikely I'd agree.

The point you make about if it was stolen insurance would pay out to a fair price ... Um no plus as it's stolen it impacts your no claims history and you'd also lose your excess. Or if they found it they would repair it less your excess cost but then it would be recorded a stolen recovered and would be worth less to any future buyer - you do not get a cash sum payment from the INS comp to counter this loss.

I'm not sure why you seemed to state my parents didn't like me as a reason I moved out? I moved out to go to uni loved the freedom so that after uni as nice as it would have been to live at home you have your independance taken away from you.
Also pride about standing on your own two feet. I've had nothing given to me in life I've earnt it I've made good and bad choices and have learnt from those bad choices. That's what your missing out on.

One question is you say you'd save £700 on insurance over the gti6?? I don't understand this at no point did you state you were selling your gti6 as such you'd still own it and even if it was SORN you still need car INS else it gets stolen you get zero as it's uninsured and no your house insurance doesn't cover that.

Last question - kit car you'd want to track it else what's the point where is the money to pay for the track days and the wear and tear, and unless it would need new tyres pads and discs plus frequesnt oil changes etc um how's that paid for?

Last last one if you couldn't fit in a vx220 how could you fit into a caterham or westy?

Gareth, may I suggest that you take some time out to calm down and then come back and read the thread from the beginning to see how you came across at the start? Imagine a prospective employer reading it and try to imagine what impression they would get of you.

PS - have you ever considered a career in PR? wink
I cant stand pr, hr or any of that st.. ph is ok though.

I got jumped on for two reasons: 'Parents can deal with it' & 'renting for retards'

I hold by those statements but they aren't as 'blanket' as that. Applied to my situation renting would be silly and my parents can deal with it and they are happy to.

Many of my friends hated or do hate the thought of living with their parents where as others like me have a good relationship, they don't interfere and I don't mind living at home. If you don't want to live at home after uni to recover finances or you dislike the thought that's fine but in my situation its the most logical thing to do.

I haven't got in a wide bodied seiw but I imagine its 'ok'.. I can fit in a vx220 but it did feel very cramped when the roof wasn't even on. I probably would have entertained the idea more in a kit car.

Not sure what the insurance malarky is and I'm not sure if I would have kept the 306

The kit car was up for more than the vx220 and I would have had money to run either although without a job its a silly prospect.

The kit car would have been used predominantly for country roads till I got bored depending on the 306 situation..

I'm not sure why everyone feels so proud that they pay for their food and accommodation, its not like I haven't before and it won't be soon before I do again..

I get the feeling people are envious, pissed off or have a chip on their shoulder. But I'm sure when I mention things like that everyone assumes I'm spoilt or stuck up or selfish or just a massive .

I'm sure everyone's friendly enough at meets and you wouldn't think I'm a if you met me.

Do you cook for the family at home do you sometimes buy the shopping and actually do the shopping.
You also cannot really have all your mates round for a dinner party if your parents are there - sure they may not mind but it's not the same as doing it in your own pad.

The pride of actually inviting family etc round to YOUR pad be it rented or mortgaged.

Anyway everyone is different.

You may find that your moving out of your parents far sooner than you'd think and into rented accomodation. Say you get a job which isn't commutable from your parents house you will have to move out end of.

Back to the kit car - why not start with tracking the gti6 they are quite the track weapon lot of fun not too much to go wrong apart from wear and tear items but in replacing them your car will just get better and better. Don't boy racer it though race car instead

gareth.

Amusing as this might be I think the thread has run its course. Trolling or just someone who won't listen to advice, I neither know nor care. Considering the slimmest possibility that you are simply misguided or yet to become wise to the ways of the world I'll make my second and last post in this thread in the form of some advice which is this. Set up a new PH persona and never post under this one again. It's toxic, tainted, call it what you like but you've to come from so far back I wouldn't even bother trying.

On the other hand. If you really are just trolling, get lost (and that's the polite version wink)

Oh, I wouldn't be so sure. It's not language that I would use, but having read this thread... You have done a great job of persuading me that this is an appropriate description smile

I wish people would give this poor PHer a break. OK, he invited being shot down in asking the question. Yes the idea of blowing your last few grand may not be the conventinally sensible thing to do but the risk of losing serious money is very little. He wants to do it and in 10 years I doubt he'll regret it. OK he might but so what.

It's amazing how many responses there have been to this. It's almost like trial by PH.

I've got half a mind to put a quid on the lottery and if my numbers come up I'd give this PHer the money so he could live his dream without the hassle he's getting here.

What line of work is he looking for and where. if I know of anything I'll let you know.

It's not real life though is it. The OP can log off or ignore anymore replies.

He's not going to be beaten up or get sent down for a 5 stretch for posting something silly.

I'd say there were far more deserving causes in the UK than a youth on PH that lives at home with his Mum and Dad.

Some people need to get a grip.

I really don't think it's because of that. Neither is it whether he rents or lives at home. For me, it's that rather than making a contribution to the running of the household and saving (whether for a house deposit or to start a business, or for the future), he was looking to blow the money on a car. To me that's disrespectful - even if your parents are happy to support you (which I'm sure they are) and refuse to take any money, buy them a holiday or something. I'm sure you a perfectly lovely chap, but you do come over as a bit selfish & uncaring, and not a little naive!

Purely as a word of advice, regarding the non-depreciating asset - there's no such thing as a sure thing!

FWIW I think you made the right decision - save the money, you are young and have loads of time for fast cars! thumbup

I would agree, that's what most people have been trying to point out, but he just doesn't seem to listen, rather just saying they obviously haven't read the thread etc. There has been times I've said stupid stuff, or got annoyed with someone on PH. However normally I try and understand their viewpoint. However he seems to be ignoring the good advice and then saying his parents can deal with it, even though he was considering spending his savings (which he may have got back, but he didn't seem to recognise any potential for things to go wrong).
