LCI 330i 50mpg extra urban, 39 mpg combined. Will probably be doing 35-40mpg at constant 85mph.

Here's one within budget

Yeah a 172 or 182 will easily do 35mpg at 80mph.

0-60 between 6.5 and 6.7 seconds.

Mk1 Leon Cupra R will do that, 270bhp from a remap too smile
Not sure how true that is.

I've got an ibiza with the same engine, at 80mph its doing about 27mpg max.
Very true, do it quite often. Had 32mpg on an 80-100mph cruise, and I get 38mpg at 70mph

This thread will bring out the people that have no idea what mpg their car does, but have once seen a high figure and quote it...
Can't speak for other people, but I have 14 years of data for my car on a spreadsheet. Pretty much every tank of fuel I put in it.
I could bore you with a PDF of if it you want.
No thanks. You sound boring enough without having to prove it.

Once you get into the habit of noting the trip down on your petrol receipt and typing the info into the spreadsheet, it's no big deal. Then suddenly you find you have a lot of history and it becomes a shame to stop. But, yeah, it does sound boring I know. smile

My Audi TT 225 gets around that much at 80 as well.

Looks like most cars will do that as long as there is no harsh acceleration

Subaru outback 3.0R does that figure at a 120kph cruise (just). Same as a Legacy if you don't need the jacked up suspension.

Maybe my driving style involves lots of harsh acceleration on the motorway and thats why I only get 27mpg :S wouldn't have thought it did why would you accelerate harshly alot on the motorway lol, maybe once or twice but not alot.

Hmmmmmmm.

The odd little squirt of fast acceleration shouldn't harm it as long as you're not hoofing it constantly. In fact I read sometimes its best to quickly get up to a cruising speed and then stay there.

so did mine until I changed the Lambda sensor... improved MPG no end.

In fact, on a lot of early cars with a lambda sensor that have done a load of miles, it may pay to change it. My BMW 728i improved by 2 MPG overall after i changed it.
