BMW Z4 1.8i/2.0i/2.8i
Discussion
Hi guys,
I'm looking to change my car and i'm looking at a BMW Z4 (up to a year old).
There are three 1997cc engines all putting out different BHP:
BMW Z4 sDrive28i Roadster: 245BHP
BMW Z4 sDrive20i Roadster M Sport: 184BHP
BMW Z4 sDrive18i Roadster: 156BHP
Is there any point in wasting £1000's on the 245 BHP version when i could buy the cheaper 156 BHP version and potentially have it ECU remapped in excess of 245BHP anyway??
Possible??
Kind Regards
Ashley

I think the only difference is that the 2.8 has larger front brakes, although some guys on the F30 forum are saying that there are some internal differences in the 2.8 like pistons. A 1.8 should map to a standard 2.8.
Kelleners already do it..

Just be aware that on a car of around a year old, if anything goes wrong with it mechanically and BMW discover the ECU's been remapped then they could declare the warranty void and leave you paying for any repairs yourself!
(And for all those people who will post that remaps are undetectable, a remap changes the ECU parameters from the factory settings so how exactly is that going to be undetectable?)

Only reason I ask is because I have done it before when I had my 325d (3.0L engine) remapped to give the performance of the 335d hence saving £1000's.
There seems a massive difference in the range of bhp on the 2.0L engines which made me wonder if there was more to it.
It still won't drive like a 335dThere seems a massive difference in the range of bhp on the 2.0L engines which made me wonder if there was more to it.
Back on topic, really interesting that the 18i with a simple map will take it to the same performance as the 28i. What will a remap do to a 28i?
Performance-Centre.co.uk can upgrade your Z4 E89 18i by 109 BHP with a simple remap.
They have done 30 cars now.
https://www.performance-centre.co.uk/blogs/project...
The link takes you to the project page for the Z4 18i.
The dotted blue line shows the power flattens off at 4200 rpm and 155 bhp.
The dotted red line shows the power after the remap and the power is already at 210 bhp at 4200 rpm and still climbing.
Torque is tailing away, but that is expected.

Hi guys!
I also own a BMW Z4 E89 sDrive18i and i am thinking to proceed with a performance enhancement.
has anyone tried it?
any feedback?
I can't answer your question, but as I've got a Z4 Coupe I spend a fair bit of time on " z4forum" and people on there have done it. I also own a BMW Z4 E89 sDrive18i and i am thinking to proceed with a performance enhancement.

You could do worse than sign up and ask the same question!
