111 Point check

So, having now experienced three somewhat more extreme 'toys' since my last 911 and all of them being two seaters, I am thinking of getting back in - seems to be the best solution at the moment for having a bit of fun/commuting/ferrying the kids around to go karting/sailing/karate etc.

Previous car was a 2004 997C2S which was faultless and I am looking at something similar. Seems to be a vast number of cars around, and very good value at anywhere between 20 and 30K. The particular one I am looking at would qualify for a one or two year Porsche warranty subject to 111 point check, which for me is non negotiable - I do not want to run one of the gen1 cars without a Porsche warranty. Given that one of the two big known problems is bore scoring(the other being IMS..!) do Porsche do a borescope as part of the check or do you have to pay extra to have that done?

I'm fairly certain I read somewhere that they don't.

They definitely don't include a borescope as part of the 111 point check. Had both (and a compression test!) done on a 997 I bought recently and the borescope was an extra £190 quid.

Hmm, well then I am assuming the onus is on them - i.e. once warranted, if I get bore scoring/IMS etc and they had carried out the 111 point check in order to approve the warranty, and I hadn't hitherto over-revved it/parked it in a river then I am covered yes?

As long as you follow all of the rules etc then it should be covered.

It seems the process is they will do the cursory checks as part of the 111 points but if anything seems untoward they will then advise owner they can't ascertain if warranty is possible until further investigation, borescope/compression test at extra cost.

Do we know if IMS/borescoring is a specific warranty item or will there be lots of variables involved at the time - i.e. do they ever wriggle on 'wear and tear' or suchlike?

If either issue is left long enough the engine will go pop and if the car is standard and has been serviced at Porsches in line with their guidance it should be covered under warranty.
