My Cup wheel has rubbed away over the years. Alcantara does not wear well. Once it rubs down it's hard to grip, so I find I need gloves with a rubber coating to grip properly.
Has it worn down ? Or has it turned into a well polished, matted mass that looks almost like tired leather ? When it's new, Alcantara looks wonderful, but unless it's cared for, or god forbid, your hands sweat it rapidly starts to look distinctly secondhand.

Not sure, if I'm honest. Probably a bit of both. It's done several seasons of sprints and club racing in hot conditions (always with gloves on). When it's new, Alcantara looks wonderful, but unless it's cared for, or god forbid, your hands sweat it rapidly starts to look distinctly secondhand.
If there is a way to bring it back to life, I'd love to hear.
Here's mine
Also just added a quick release steering wheel boss and a Sparco aftermarket wheel. It was only £165, is very nice in Alcantara and feels great. The Porsche / momo cup wheel is £500 - £1000 depending on where you look, which doesn't seem value to me, and since my car is modded to hell and back anyway, I went with the value option.
Not the best pic of the wheel, sorry

Yes, in addition to the 993RS Clubsport replica 3.8 which I still have (but which is for sale now).
The GT3 is a year 2000 model, Comfort, with 90k miles on the clock. It has been crashed on circuit at least once or twice, and been repaired by the best in the business.
It now has a full Manthey Racing set up - K400 carbon fibre induction kit, lightweight flywheel and exhaust, Manthey KW dampers, 6 pot calipers with Alcon floating discs, cup diff - all the mods you would want. Pushing about 400bhp.
Off to Zandvoort in it tonight for a 2 day track day - my first time on circuit with it! Can't wait.
Cheers,
Joel

Have fun at Zandvoort, I’m off there (and Zolder) next month with the Caterham.

Thank you, SFO and lemming!
If you go down the redying route, please watch the angelus videos (on their website) on the how to guides. You'll also need a heat gun or hair dryer to help speed up the drying process otherwise you'll have black coloured palms for a long time :crying:

Just to add that the Momo wheel is available without added Porsche tax for about £220 - it's the Model 07. https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/momo-model-07-stee...The advantage of the Momo over your wheel is the 70mm dish which brings it closer to the driver. However, some people can't get on with it because it is more of a stretch to reach the indicator stalk.
