997.2 Exhaust Upgrades - Analysis/Options

Thanks for your help Chris, fitted the sharkwerks bypass you sent to Denmark. Only took my Porsche indy guys an hour to fit too, not bad for a first effort. I had some BMC sports filters put in at the same time. Really loving the enhanced sound, first and second gear are brilliantly raspy around town now and it howls at the top end Its -4 here today but it hasn't stopped me driving about with the window down lol.
No problem at all - always happy to help give a 997.2 a proper 911 voice! Yours was a non-PSE from memory wasn't it?
Enjoy, Chris

yeah its non PSE so far too quiet. already thinking about the next step on the exhaust tinkering ladder. what do you guys recommend in the way of side mufflers to go with the sharkwerks bypass?
I have recently found myself looking at the Fabspeed side muffler delete pipes.....Decisions decisions...
After much reading I've decided to get the Gundo hack (£200) and the Hayward and Scott Central Silencer bypass (£420). So for £620 odd plus fitting I get a 997.2 which sounds like a PSE+Sharkwerks bypass.
At least I hope so - unless there is a reason to pay a premium for sharkwerks!!!?

My only concern about Gundo is reversibility come resale. As much as we all like mods, most purchasers of high value cars will pay more for originality. If you think the car is a keeper for several years then that's less of a problem.
I plan to keep the car for a while - but then I always say that and change after 18 months !!!I'm going to buy some stock side mufflers and keep them in the garage to reverse in the future should I need to
Fitted a Sharkwerks by-pass on my 997.2 C4S this evening. Mine is a non-PSE car, so it desperately needed something to liven it up! I ordered the kit from Chris at ABP and had him ship it to me over in Dubai. It arrived in a few day (great service!) along with some new shiny nuts n bolts.
However, unlike you lot in the UK, I didn't have to cut/grind off any bolts, little bit of WD40 helped if anything and it only took me an hour (I didn't remove the bumper). I guess it just shows what difference in climate (and lack of road salt) has. My car has only done circa 22k miles.
For those looking to DIY, I recommend the 13mm moon spanner for the top nuts on the flanges. Awkward buggers without it, especially doing this when the car is only on axel stands.
Over all, I'm pleased with the sound for the price

Thanks for the update and impressive DIY effort, you seem fairly neutral about the outcome. What would you rate it out of 10 against your expectations? However, unlike you lot in the UK, I didn't have to cut/grind off any bolts, little bit of WD40 helped if anything and it only took me an hour (I didn't remove the bumper). That was a quick turnaround! Glad it arrived ok and quickly.
WOW - they are the least corroded studs/nuts I've ever seen on a 997.2 so obviously the Dubai climate is what Porsche designed them for as in the UK they turn to dust!
Cheers, Chris

It's a little raspy on a cold start (but I guess because it's all new and shiny?), and when I say cold I mean ambient carpark temp of 30 degs or so. Driving around town you hardly notice the difference but once you're up in the rev range it does sound more fruity. I'd rate it at 8/10 against expectations. I did watch a few youtube vids, but there are only a few of non-PSE cars with the by-pass fitted. Plus you never get the true sound from a video. But, overall i"m pleased with the simple mod.

I know! I'd read quite a few guides online and all of them people had to cut them off. I was happily pleased to see how clean these were, and how easy they came off. That was a quick turnaround! Glad it arrived ok and quickly.

Thread resurrection...
Not only do we still have the Sharkwerks 997.2 bypass pipes in stock here in the UK but we now have the exclusive on the Milltek Sport bypass pipe which is priced far more competitively as manufactured here in the UK!
This fits all 997.2 - 3.6, 3.8, C2, C2S, C4, C4S, GTS and cars with or without PSE.

Hi Chris,
Any insight or footage into the Milltek offering? What is the cost differential?
With the collapse in the $/£ exchange rate over the last 2 years the Sharkwerks has unfortunately become more expensive meaning the Milltek is almost 1/2 the current price of the Sharkwerks! Any insight or footage into the Milltek offering? What is the cost differential?
Out of interest, how do people rate the bypass alone ?
For a non-PSE car, is it worth doing centre-delete only ? Or combine with the 'gundo hack' which adds a bypass to the mufflers also ?
Any thoughts would be helpful. Definitely don't want to introduce drone, so would be good to hear some views.

Gundo hack on both mufflers with a 1.5inch pipe diameter and a H&S back box sounded like a chavved up Saxo. Just the back box sounded very good. For a non-PSE car, is it worth doing centre-delete only ? Or combine with the 'gundo hack' which adds a bypass to the mufflers also ?
