991 GTS Must haves
Discussion
I've now done 1000 miles, negotiating all manner of speed bumps and ramps, I've had no issues...
Now starting to push it, and it's coming alive.
I'm amazed by the differing advice given from different OPC's regarding running in, everywhere from none required, to under 4000 revs for 2k miles. I've taken the centre ground and ensured first 750 steady, then pushing on when thoroughly warmed up thereafter.
But I was at Donington a few weeks back when a new GTS was tracked at 300 miles, his advice from dealer was no restrictions?

Interesting regarding the running in. My head has always said it's best to bed in the parts so they wear in together however I was told by a dealer that it's actually the worst thing to do and just makes it take longer to run in. They said just drive it normally and it will run in twice as quick. Who's right?

Looks lovely! Do you not mount a front plate? Does this get you into any trouble with the fuzz?
It's become my "thing" now to not have front plates on. I obviously keep the rear plate, as the rear-end has been designed to house it, and for the obvious reasons that it's properly illegal not to!As for the front, the car looks so much better without that I can't stand to see it attached. It depends on the fuzz, normal police are fairly relaxed, where as the more jumped up traffic cops are less so..

I noticed the speed bump in the background, do you have axle lift?
No axle lift - the front end isn't particularly low, or rather the speedbumps around here aren't particularly steep. The important part is to stagger the speed bump (left/right) to make sure you don't beach it!B1ggest said:

Mines at 400 miles, and I've been driving it (mostly) below 4k RPMs. Now I'm above 400 miles, I'm starting to open it up a bit more. My opinion is that a car should always be warmed up properly (90c coolant / 80c oil at least), and that is FAR more important than how many miles you put on it.Now starting to push it, and it's coming alive.

You could've done 2000 miles below 4k RPM, but if you've floored it to 4k RPM from cold, every single time, that is far more likely to cause damage than taking it to 8k RPM after it's sufficiently warmed up; in my opinion.
On the front plate issue..
I ran plateless for the first couple of weeks, but as we do a few car shows there is a lot of Police attention, and not wanting a pile of £100 fines, I've opted for a small 12 x 3" plate, on the black fillin area (which is just as illegal, but they don't seem to care?) let me try to put a picture up, its a bit marmite, some love, some hate. I just think its different and is less intrusive to the front design..

I really like that. Are you sure it is 100% legal as I would love to do the same. The other question is how the dealership let the car out without a front plate. Don't they legally have to ensure there is one?
He clearly says "I run a small plate....which is just as illegal..."Yes, technically not legal, but I'm in a Supercar club, most are running plates this small and much smaller, but no one is being stopped (so far) but I know of four that have been fined for running plateless. One was caught 3 times, and ended up with a visit to his house to ensure he had done something about it, admittedly, he is an "enthusiastic " driver..
You take your chances either way, but the full plate and plinth, for me, ruins the car.

Absolutely agree. You take your chances either way, but the full plate and plinth, for me, ruins the car.
Just a couple of quick observations after a couple of days with the car.
1) the RWS, pretty sure I am feeling it ,feels very sharp in corners .Hard to say wihthout back to back drive but it does feel better in the corners than the pec car I drove which did not have rws.
2) The ride, interesting one this because I thought the car at my pec day was quite harsh on the road. This rides much better, and amazingly I can put the suspension in its firmer setting and still use it on the road easily.I have never been able to do that with any of the other cars I have owned.

Part from my lacking of vision and missing the words! What about the dealer, don't they have to ensure the car is road legal when it leaves the dealership, I guess the answer is clearly not but they must have issues as they are complicit with the act.I really like that small plate and think it's a brilliant idea

You can instruct them to not fit a front plate plinth (well in advance) as that is super important. Not sure how you handle them not fitting the front plate though?

I just told them not to fit it or the plinth, and if they drilled holes in my bumper I wouldn't be taking the car. That seemed to do the trick.
But I did mention in every phone call, and put it in an email too.
You're lucky! A friend of mines turbo s and macan GTS ended up being drilled even at his explicit request on several occasions - I was still shocked he took them! But I did mention in every phone call, and put it in an email too.
On another note - how do you find your GTS in comparison to your old car? Are there any negatives towards it?
Not really negatives as such, but I'm a 6' 3" 17st guy, and the M4 was definetly a better fit. I liked the after market exhaust on the M4, it made the car.
I see a few GTS aftermarket systems in the works, but I assume with Porsche this is a definite warranty killer?
I like the general sound, but could do with being a bit louder, and the burbles a little cracklier if that makes sense...
The big plus for the GTS is how it puts power down, it's definitely significantly faster than my 525 bhp M4 (modified).

525bhp! That's a heck of a mod!!
I test drove an M3 and really wanted to like it having had the 2 previous generations but it did nothing for me. I think it was the sound with the synthesised effect which I really didn't like. With the aftermarket exhaust, does the speaker sound change as well or is it switched off
