The engine in the first gen car is an absolute peach, the 991.2 just left me cold. I found the lag annoying, and it didn’t sound ANYWHERE near as good.
Not one for me, but I'll be interested to see how this pans out, especially as it's a Gen 1 manual:

It’s down to what you want a car for, the gen-2 is the better daily/regular driver with much easier overtaking thrust from all that torque (110Nm more than a gen-1 over a much bigger range) plus the much improved PCM4 inside... it’s also definitely considerably faster than than the gen1, also with Sports PASM and larger front stoppers as standard.
But the gen-1 is the more special proposition for a Sunday B road blast, last of the naturally aspirated and best of the gen1 Carrera range. It really needs revving (4500rpm+) for best forward thrust, and this involves you more, it sounds awesome as you scream to the 7,800rpm limiter, so you just have to do it again best with PDK IMO as it feels easier to select 1st on the move when required and also to keep it in the upper rev range... Sports Plus is mad

Well the only answer is to buy a Gen 1 for a while, then move into a Gen 2. After all, can't be too careful - better be safe than sorry But the gen-1 is the more special proposition for a Sunday B road blast, last of the naturally aspirated and best of the gen1 Carrera range. Does anyone know if it’s possible to retrofit the -20mm SPASM springs onto a PASM 991.2 GTS? Or if not a set of aftermarket springs that get the job done?
Have found a car I like but it’s only got the -10mm suspension unfortunately.
Also sport design rear wing / spoiler I assume can easily be retrofitted but is there a change up front as well? Some people mention a sport design bumper but I believe the GTS has that as standard anyway?

There's a market for the gen-2, but the gen-1 excitement has gone.

Having gone 997, 991.1, 991.2 (all GTS) I would choose the 991.1 as the pick of the bunch. Yes the .2 had plenty of torque but it really lost out on that high end excitement, I also felt the interior switch gear of the .2 was a bit plastiky. I have no doubt others will disagree but that is just my take on it.
I agree with a lot of the above, and having spent time in a .2 GTS its not for me, over and above the .1.
A few months back I spent quite a bit of time road tripping with a .2 GTS and I can honestly say it really wasnt any faster on the road than my .1. It absolutely delivers differently, but if your properly 'driving' then it wont get away. I can imagine that when your simply bimbling about its more accessible however.

It's not that simple, the blown 3 litre is a masterpiece. Fantastic powerplant. The 991.2 GTS covers ground like few other cars I have driven. And it sounds ok too. Not as good as the 3.8, but pretty good for a turbo.
Everybody to their own, but I completely disagree. The .2 engine is laggy and runs out of steam. The .1 engine is the pinnacle of non turbo (and non bespoke GT) engines that Porsche have ever built. I found the .2 dull to drive in comparison, quick if you are pointing and squirting, but doesn't have the delicate throttle response which I look for in a car.diamondo said:

the 991.1 GTS has the vastly superior engine in terms of excitement and engagement, and I think that ultimately will trump the tech and 0-60 numbers that the 991.2 GTS offers (which will ultimately be surpassed very soon by a 992 derivative).
I have driven both, and the .1 is by far the more exciting car to drive. Yes you have the rev the hell out of it (it is q dull under 4k revs), but that adds to the engagement. Once you do it rewards you in spades and absolutely screams. None of this theatre is present in the .2 GTS. As the 992 has arrived and a new GTS only a couple of years away, the differentiating factor becomes only the engine - they arent making the NA 3.8 anymore, its confined to history.
The market is pricing this quite clearly, and despite the fact that the .1 GTS was sold in greater numbers.

Sorry but I've driven all sorts of turbo cars with silly horse power, they get VERY boring very quickly. The fun in driving a car is not straight line blasting it's using the revs, throttle response, and corners. So that is with the 991.1 is the more engaging car.And you would need to be insane to modify a 991.2 and lose the warranty. If you want that sort of power just buy a turbo S.
