Got a weird one here.

Chim 500 with the buttons for lights rather than the twist knob.
Dip beam works, pull the stalk for flash works, but push for main beam doesn't work. Dip beam also doesn't go off when the stalk is pushed for main beam.

Tried a different stalk, same problem persists.

The car has had a HID conversion done, so I disconnected that and put some H4 bulbs back in as the bulb connectors were still all present and correct, but the problem was the same.

When using HIDs, you push the stalk for Main beam, and the HID flashes briefly but stays on dip. With the pull to flash, it switches to what looks more like main beam.

With H4s, push for main just doesn't do anything.

The main beam relay is clicking when you push the stalk, but there's no voltage at the bulb.
Main beam fuse (or what I assume to be the main beam fuse from the fuse diagram) is ok too.

Really got me stumped this one, I'm coming to the conclusion that whoever did the HID conversion has done something to the wiring somewhere.

Is there a separate fuses for the main beam supply and the flasher supply? If so any idea which they'll be, owners manual fusebox diagram is as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Cheers

Im not familiar with the Tvr wiring on this circuit so cant help much but the hid kit should not have altered the wiring, unless the person who did it tried to upgrade the headlight wiring as well.
Id expect to see the hid kit on dipped lights only as the warm up time of the lamps is usually not suitable for main beam.

Rather than having two filaments like a conventional H4 bulb, a HID H4 moves the electrodes forwards and backwards. Yes, there is a slow initial light build up when the lights are switched on, but then the movement is as quick as the small solenoid can move.

Did you resolve this?

I have exactly the same problem on my Chim. It was fine until yesterday!

Pushing the stalk backward for full beam doesn't work (in fact, the instrument lights go off!) but pulling forward for flash does work.

I've replaced he stalk, swapped the relay and fuses but still the same.

I've ordered a new clock so I'm going to take he dash top off and check connections next weekend.

I have a dim and distant memory that flashing the lights and full beam are on different circuits/fuses. Bit like indicators and hazards are too. Hence a loose ribbon cable from lights switch to light control box can mess up the headlamp connection without affecting the flash.

Don't take this as gospel, as I could have it completely wrong. I am remembering back to 2012/13, when my ribbon cable got attacked by mice.
But it might help you think differently about what you are seeing.

Yes, they are. There are separate pins for flash and toggle on the stalk.

I'll update this when I've had the dash top off and had a forage around in there.
