Had an day at the PEC yesterday with a GT3, GT4 and a Turbo S as a comparison.
Started in the GT4 then to the Turbo S then the GT3.

It was wet... very wet, so I couldn't extend it that much as spinning up in all useable gears but first impressions are very positive, as you'd expect. The highlight being the sound of the motor which has a spine tingling shriek that is much louder than its predecessor and an immaculate two finger salute to the whole turbo / hybrid and electric brigade. Incredibly mechanical and a gorgeous very expensive noise at that. The engine totally dominated the whole experience. As manual wasn't available, I drove the PDK sapphire blue car on platinum wheels and steels which looked very good I have to say, anyone going for Sapphire with platinum wheels, you are in for a nice surprise. The PDK box is, I have to admit superb. Very quick changes and super sharp although still happy with my choice of manual which will create a slightly more olde school fire breathing beast in comparison to the modern tech of the PDK which for me at least, took a layer of interaction away even though i only drove it in manual mode. The steel brakes were great although due to the weather they weren't getting a work out. The PCCB's on the Turbo S had a lovely initial bite which I liked but due to the weather, a comparison of brakes isn't really possible. On the subject of brakes, they said that the pre production yellow GT4 they have there which has done 15k miles all on that track hasn't had a change of PCCB's and they still looked like new to me.

The engine is worth 111k on its own. In my humble opinion, it's a masterpiece of engineering and something very special indeed to have in you life and in your garage. All 3 of our instructors were preferring the PDK over the manual (although i don think they had driven a manual yet so just PDK fanboys) but then for a lot of serious track days, that is probably your best bet (or if you live in a built up area) but a manual on a dry track would I bet be superb as well and still, even better on the road. The instructors also all commented on how they much preferred it over the 991.1 RS too. Again, the engine is mainly why - and for me you can also have it with a stick!

Great day out in some fine cars but appalling weather meant only really a small taster of its capabilities. I would buy it just for the engine alone if I'm honest, bring on November!

But what did you think of the new engine Dave?

On a more serious note, how does the chassis compare with the GT4? Typical arse heavy 911 or more nimble like the mid engine layout? I guess the conditions may have helped to highlight the differences.

How did you manage to do the GT3/4?Turbo S comparison ? Days you "had in the bank" saved up ? Or are you just very persuasive?!

My impression it the instructors there are PDK fan boys...especially if they're from track/racing background. Although the last one I had bought and ran a 981 Spyder as a road car instead of a GT4 for 12 months or so.

Indeed Darren! Well basically the engine is a work of art, did I mention that?

The GT3 and GT4 didn't feel a world apart to me in terms of handling. I suppose the internal architecture of the cabin is almost identical so the differences weren't stand out at all as you could have been in either car considering the rather inclement conditions and I am sure would have been more pronounced in the dry. The GT4 was as graceful and as ever and my brother actually preferred that to the GT3 in terms of sweet spot handing. The GT3 didn't feel arse heavy in the wet, a little more prone to oversteer perhaps but that could have been the extra torque rather than the position of the motor. I had a the tail wagging on the newer no2 handling circuit quite a bit which seemed a lot less grippy, especially coming out of the bomb hole, right then left and up over the top, it was very slippery there. Both turned in just as well as each other and I dare say would have put in very similar 30 odd second lap times on the main handling circuit.

Yes, days in the bank over the last 24 months really of which I still have one left. I treated my two brothers to a day out and we swapped cars.
They're TVR Sagaris owners plus Catherham etc so I thought it might tempt then into owing a proper car smile
Their feedback was GT4 handling, motor in the GT3 and utter mind bending straight line speed of the Turbo S.

Update regarding the seat stripe which I know has divided opinion.

Luckily the build for my car falls in the contrast stitching window. Ive a November build Miami car with black/silver interior, yellow belts and PCCB. It doesn't work on my desktop, but the OPC system shows the full details of yellow stitching and it looks superb, the GT3 logo on the rear carpet is also yellow along with the steering wheel stitching.

The main improvement is it drops the silver seat stripe, I know its a lot for stitching but it really starts to stand out as a more bespoke interior, worth it if your putting yellow belts on a PCCB car.

Good to hear, so I assume all silver stitching is replaced with yellow and nice to hear the seat stripe gets dropped. If PTS not a future option, then this weeks favourite is black outside, yellow stitching/belts, PCCB!

I know!

Only 83 miles so far but will double that tomorrow and it's sunny!

Happy Friday everyone.
What make / type of lift is the car on ? I'm just starting to look for one
That looks like a brand new garage for a brand new car!
I think there's a bit more to this 'garage' than the OP's letting on getmecoat
Having clicked through and seen a bigger pic that's a detailing bay I think as those are strip lights on the wall. If that is breadvans own I doff my cap to you sir!
Ha ha, I wish! This is the work bay at Exclusive Car Care near Bath, I picked it up today. Great job as usual from Justin, highly recommended, and it was a pleasure to drive the car again. Still under 200 miles so very little to report on the dynamics yet for those chasing more feedback.

My garage is nothing like this, unfortunately. smile

No, just off for the PPF.

I've currently got the back debadged for the same reason and I'll just put 'GT3' back on, it looks much better imo.

I am sure I read somewhere that it didn't drop the seat stripe ? That's fantastic news if it does. That box is getting ticked!

Lots of cars with PCCB's and Yellow Stitching.....

Don't think so, it's ordered to my chassis no. That's £50 I'll never see again!

Not quite sure whether this guy is going to do time courtesy of this video... unless he was in Germany and not Holland!!! But it’s a great drivers perspective of the car (lots of chat - driving part from about 9 mins)

Really liking this - Carmine again I assume - If so I think it looks better in these than in real life - but whatever it is, these photos look lovely : I think the colour of the plate really works on this car - shame we have black and white - they just don't pick out the PCCB's and Porsche crest like this plate does (I realise this one's on steels btw) smile
