Spoke to a couple of friends with manual cars who display the same symptom. They contacted their dealers (one London, one Midlands) and they got exactly the same response (to the letter) from the dealers. Interesting that it says “within tolerance” when they didn’t even inspect the car!
Porsche are obviously getting a few queries (probably fuelled by forums like this) and have a standard response. Probably with flagging it with the dealer so it is on record and then seeing how it goes. Doesn’t seem like a big issue and only really noticeable if you go looking for it but sensible to be cautious.
Mine does it to. It is going to the dealer on Wednesday. Most irritating ist hat the gearlever jolts back and forth even under constant load at around 2000 Rpm. I find it is more pronounced when you are simply part coasting at a constant speed on a light throttle and as the engine hunts there is a degree of transmission shunt which causes the gear lever movement in fourth.
The carefully worded letters from PORSCHE are just a ploy to pacify owners who experience this peculiar trait..The fact that SW20 had his entire box replaced under warranty speaks volumes IMO , and as a result an admission from Porsche that there is a fault. As i've stated from the start it only manifests itself in the 3rd/4th plane as this is in perfect alignment with the gear linkage..However as time goes on and more and more people complain Porsche want to avoid a fullblown recall with the resulting bad press it entails..
Its pur nonsense from Porsche that this play is within tolerances and more to do with an engineering flex within the the gearbox itself or more likely a problem with the dynamic gearbox mounts..
Typical response from a huge cooperation...

Wonder if many 911Rs and Tourings are affected.
Out of interest, did you recent Clubsport guys get the fire extinguisher with your car?
My car arrived 3 months ago but I'm still waiting for the dealer to supply me with the extinguisher they didn't even realise was missing. Porsche have told them they will send it to the dealer as soon as they have stock.

Yes the R does it a bit, but to be honest I had not noticed it al all, until I saw it mentioned on here.Wonder if many 911Rs and Tourings are affected.
Out of interest how much play is there on the gearlever in fourth when backing on and off the throttle?

Morning,
Not a lot to be honest. Like i said it was only after i saw it on here that i noticed it.
Just taken mine out for a morning blast. Paid particular attention to 4th gear and really it's not a lot of movement. You only feel some internal movement on and off the throttle. Are others finding the gearstick actually moves? Mine doesn't Not a lot to be honest. Like i said it was only after i saw it on here that i noticed it.

Mine was missing - dealer will call when it arrives. Also got a letter from Porsche yesterday stating they are having supply problems and will send one when they have them - picked the car up about 8 weeks ago - so very efficient of them to finally write to me. Also interesting that harnesses changed from expected nice chunky red ones to skinny black and yellow without any explanation.
Not that I care - car is epic ; only issue I’m having is keeping it under 5000 rpm - it’s not easy
Also no movement in the gear stick in mine for what it’s worth.

Anyone getting smoke on cold start? I am getting a lot, and it seems more each time. Car is six months old done 350 miles. I mean a lot of smoke.
Yes, i had this a bit for the first 600 Miles GT3.2PDK, then it stopped. My 991.1GT3 used to do this all the time.Whist my GT3.2 has had and Oil and filter change at 1.5k Miles, its done well over 2500 Track miles alone. I have not had to top up the Oil once. The Gen 1 4.0 NA in my 91RS used to use about 3/4 of Lt per 800- 1k miles.
