Took my GT3 up to Cambridge and back yesterday - 200 miles round trip

And I am thinking how can you improve on this car ? Such a great car to drive, it just does it all so well

I don't track it, I've got comfort seats , leather dash , leather steering column .............all the wrong bits !!!

What is the new one going to do ???? It'll be scary

If they're the right bits for you they're the right bits!

We're due to start getting test drive articles/videos in the next few weeks which should be interesting!

I think the main will be the extra torque, which it does need. What else is there to improve on in all honesty from a driving point of view..??..

It's manual for a start so you can start using the other half of your body and brain :-) and then punch out the bends with the extra torque.

When new models appear, there is often a lot of focus on the improvements, so everyone thinks the new model is so much better.
However, the actuality is often more subtle and will probably blur as time passes - particularly between the PDK models. Obviously the big interest and excitement will be the 'manual' gearbox, which gives lucky buyers virtually a 911 R.

I'll stick with pdk thanks

My brain can't cope .............

Takes me all my energy to decide on my spec - that's exhausting enough

Seems the modern way ;-( Automatics and spec is key, I just changed my hot hatch and it's not even easy to find a manual in those now , ended up with a S1 (manual only) and it's a hoot.

Driving a car can be quite fun you know, esp when you have to use the other 1/2 of your body and engage brain.

I was quite shocked on the GT3 thread that most are choosing the lifestyle PDK option :-( prob the same people who moaned they could not get an R lol

sad times.

My wife has a (manual only) Focus RS with Mountune kit yet she'd choose a double clutch 'box if she could. I'm glad she couldn't wink The RS is a blast! It's her daily driver in lots of traffic though so that influences things quite a lot.

For me though it's manual all the way. Great for a weekend blast smile

I think the three major differences that make a difference to us mere mortals are

- Engine. More powerful, better torque characteristics and maybe more reliable
- Gearbox...PDK is improved and obviously the manual box
- Chassis/Suspension...supposed to have learnt lessons from "R" which will make it a better road car (more "compliant") .

I agree, especially the chassis/suspension mods. I've read the settings are further apart so it's not only more compliant on the road but more aggressive on the track.

have a look at the real world toque at 4k on both cars ! 3.8 will be about 238Nm at 4k vs the 4.0 at 370 Nm road use the extra torque will shine though.

not 5% or 10% you get >50% more Torque at lower revs and with a manual in 2nd that's what you need out the bends ;-)

Maybe but extremely doubtful.

AP referred many times (in the promo stuff admittedly) to a snappier freer revving engine mainly due to lower oil pressure and less internal drag in part provided by internal crankshaft lubrication.

Reckon he's probably right.
