what is an 'early' 3.4 996?
Discussion
Having had two 996s I am really enjoying this thread. The Sport Classic wheels have aged well. I think what helps is that a similar wheel design is available on the 991 so they look familiar and retro at the same time.
A friend of mine still has a Seal Grey 986.1 (51 plate) that he's had since new. It's a low mileage, weekend use car and it's such a pretty little thing. Compact, intimately close in the cockpit and just a nicely-judged design. There's a simplicity of design in the 986 and 996 series cars that, although a marked change of direction from Porsche design, just seem to work.

My mate just sold this for close to asking in a couple of weeks I think:

Anyone on here that bought it? Cracking car (and not driven very hard for the 40K or so miles they've had it if I'm honest ), almost had it off him myself at the end of last year but couldn't justify 3 Porsche sportscars in the household
This is from the poverty pork thread. Have we had it here? Do we know who bought it?https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

What do you think, shall I stick my ambers on?
I really like that colour/wheel spec. I also vote no ambers, but want to see them on to prove I'm wrong! I think in your case the grey lights and paint really work together. What do you think, shall I stick my ambers on?

BBS sport classic 11 wheels, a rare option & one that really suits the non kitted cars. Makes them look rather grown upSnap
Yeah they do look bigger on the silver car - what suspension is it running? Mine's standard so maybe a little higher...

Lovely colour, dodgy interior & Tip sadly but may suit somebody, some good options too:

Lovely, lovey colour.http://philipraby.co.uk/listing/1998-porsche-996-c...
Tip & 17's, but MO30 & LSD... very odd spec. I thought the 'sports pack' (or whatever it was called) which got you MO30 & LSD also included 18's and bigger exhaust outlets (which this car doesn't have either).
It looks like it's got a pair of 7.5" front wheels on the rear.
Also... £17k for a 100k mile tip... prices are starting to get a bit silly. This would have been a £10-12k car 18-24 months ago.

Mine is having a light suspension refresh and an upgrade with some Ohlins R&T dampers this week at CG. The car was there a year ago for track rods and geometry - emerged massively improved. Will be interesting to see how much improvement the new damping brings.
Will be very interested to read your thoughts when it's done. What do you think the shortcomings are at the moment?Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
