I think 18’s are the optimal size but the guys are correct on stance & as we go forward are we going to see people going for a more retro look which will favour the 17’s
I’ve not posted a picture for a long time so here it is, mine is on MO30 and no where near as low as previous 2

I can also compete with how dirty yours is for a change laugh
My favourite wheel for the 996. These are 18s I believe, the reason for the question was whether to go for these in 17s on my car.

I think this depends a lot on ride height and offset. My car is seriously low and therefore the 17 look a bit better than how they might look if ride height was much higher. Picture opportunity ......

Also I have seen some 996 wearing 19 where the rears poke out a bit and they look stupid if you ask me. I'm less concerned about the diameter than I am the poke.

Those 17s do look spot on on your car. I'd like to see a more 3/4 angle to see how tucked in they look.

Depends massively on offset and ride height as you say. Anything that pokes out looks awful in my opinion but I find that even without poke most 19s just look far too big for a 996. But again, the style of the wheel can make or break it. An 17 with spokes that go right to the outer lip can look the same size as something like a twist with shorter spokes and a heavy lip.

Yes these are 18", they're light wheels. I don't think there would be a huge weight difference between these and the 17" wheels, in all honesty unless you're Lewis Hamilton I doubt you'd notice the difference in unsprung weight

It's more the comfort level that I think would be noticeable due to the extra inch of sidewall.

EDIT: and the grip levels assuming the 17s have a smaller contact patch.

It's fairly low and I don't think the ride is that bad in all honesty, it can't be that bad as my wife and kids haven't complained (yet) either biggrin

Are you feeling lucky punk?

This is with 18 inch wheels. I think the first pic is the rear but makes no difference as the measurement is basically the same.

Not much in it, proper tape measure (none of this ruler with a 5mm gap before the numbers start malarky!) I'm a smidgen over 8cm from the top of the wheel to the wheelarch. Although my wife does say every cm counts....

Fronts tuck in really far. My Porsche indi told me they could not track my car as it was so low there was no adjustment left. I've bought some spacers but never got round to trying them.

I'm -1.5 or -2 degrees camber.

I have 19’s with a photo on page 300

It’s obviously not a performance driven decision smile

Chasing interior rattles - Interior trim clips that hold the c-pillar trim on - does anyone know where I can get them from? Not the tree-shaped metal strip, but the washer/retaining plate that holds the clip to the trim piece (arrowed). I've looked everywhere and can't find anything. I don't even know if I'm calling it the right thing.

Any help appreciated from you, more bearded gents than I.

Was looking for this exact part last summer when chasing rattles and replacing trim clips. Took me a little while with the Porsche Katalogs to find the right bit.

I had to order them through Teile in Germany during the 1st Lockdown as no one in the UK had any stock. They were about 80p each. Any Porsche Centre in the UK would likely be even cheaper if you can buy direct, or Design911 have them for about £1.10 with the VAT - https://www.design911.co.uk/parts/99950747901

Part number you want is 99950747901.

Comes as a single piece with the washer and clip.

Item number 5 on this Catalog page:

Mallone - thank you, very much indeed. The local OPC is a 5 minute walk away. Will head down there at lunchtime. Thanks again.

Managed to crack my oil filler neck while removing the airbox to replace a failed 964RS engine mount. How annoying. £47+VAT.

Coming back to this, Porsche Colchester were utterly useless. They reckon I need to buy an entire C pillar trim, as it "comes with the clips installed".

Looks like I'll be buying from Germany!

Yep, part number, description, the guy even went off to ask someone. Felt like I was talking to a brick wall.
