what is an 'early' 3.4 996?

I'm simply responding to 993 vs 996 comparison. The budget is also quite important for a brand, especially for 911, and lack of it is very clear on 996 styling and overall development.
I disagree that the lack of budget is reflected in the styling. I'd be interested in knowing what you believe to stylistically look cheap in the context of the era in which it was released. The reduced budget is reflected in the components quality and mechanical engineering. Which is inarguably lower quality than it's predecessors. When it comes to the styling I would actually say the opposite is true. It would appear to me that more investment was made in the styling making the leap from 993 to 996 than from 964 to 993. It was the first time they completely redesigned the car.
If anything, if only they'd spent less on the styling then maybe we'd have had a more mechanically sound product.
Aesthetics are just a personal thing. For me...
Impact bumper cars are the worst looking of all the 911's to my eyes... I can't get past the bumpers... just an abomination after the sublime purity of the long nose cars... mostly fixed with the 964, which looks really good.
993's are model dependent - a 2S or 4S, lowered, on 18" wheels is lovely, as is the RS. But I prefer a 996.1 to a narrow bodied 993 on small wheels.

The 996.1 is a fantastic car all round and now that we are 20 yrs down the line we know the weak spots and solutions have been found for them, a 996 is a totally addictive car to drive and for value compared to the 993 i would take the 996 every time, i dont think i'll ever sell mine its the best 911 i've ever owned.

We need more newbies like you in here.I can't give too much design insight but I really like the clean and simple design of the 996 now. When i was growing up (under 10) the 993 and 996 where the current models and I had toy's of both, which gives me a fondness for their design.
Despite this, I love the 80's/90's hybrid of the 964 currently and it would be the model I would go for if i had the money.

Looks a nice example and good to see the seller is including a set of Classic 2s as the current wheels do it no favours. Do 4 wheels (with tyres presumably) even fit in a 996?
Also, according to the advert the car is in Devon but the seller is in Halesowen. That's going to confuse a few people given my own experience of selling on FB where approx 50% of people don't actually read the advert text.

The bodykit and wheels are a big no from me. Also the colour combination... Guards red looks good against black, and tan can look ok with a dark blue. But not together.
Mechanically all sounds good, but now @ £19k privately it is not a bargain, imho.
I'm sure the owner is on the 996 carrera owners group as I remember seeing the wheels. I'm sure they were previously on a blue car in Aberdeen before.
Our friends at FGP sold a GR/savannah aero 996 not too long ago for about £26k so at 18-19 this could be a very easy profit for them as they'd probably only have to wipe a damp cloth over it, stick the SC2 wheels on and turn it over for £24k

Maybe even more as that one sold a whole back. I noticed they've managed to sell the 2 yellow ones for 42k and 30k
