what is an 'early' 3.4 996?

I've got retrofit projectors fitted in my litronics - gives you better output + bixenon functionality. The halogen retrofit jobbies look a bit odd to my eye.
I actually 3D printed a holder for a projector from a BMW X4 (basically a standard Hella unit). I think making the projector surround satin would blend in better with the rest of the headlight design but I was never delighted with it. I think the DRLs you see in some of the surrounds really cheapen it. Then a cheap set of Litronics came up and I dropped the project.
Test fit picture:
Obviously output is in a different world to the halogen candles. I think the aesthetics could be improved upon with some effort.

Just trained it down to London from my parents, picked our 996 from my wife’s offices on Bond St and driven out to Mercedes World in Surrey… I really feel for my wife driving it in and out of London 3 times a week! It’s generally noisy, plus the ac or heater fan whines like a bd, the ride is rock hard, it crashes in to every pot hole, has heavy steering, a hard clutch and a stiff gearbox around the 1-2 change. It’s truly fking miserable as a city car
Really need to think about getting her something a bit more sensible.
Out of London it’s fine… on the m25 it’s pretty comfy, and once away from traffic it really rips along. Treated it to a clean inside and out with my old Eastern European guys, checked the tyre pressures (one of the rears was at 23psi) and topped up the screen wash… looks so pretty when it’s clean.

Did you get to balloon round in some AMG cars?My 986 with factory ride height suspension and 17 inch setup is as plush as a plush thing. Very recent clutch is smooth and light. Steering is not heavy at all. No reason your 996 couldn't be softened a tad. Less gangsta yes but much easier to live with in the urban jungle.
Not this time, but, other than the 2 seaters, I’ve driven most of the AMG models in the past. A really good mate works there and has had them as demonstrators or company cars.
I could soften the 996, but that would mean new suspension. Which would mean a) standard ride height and b) spending a ton of cash…. Neither of which I want
Might get some standard engine mounts for it… I think the RSS ones were the primary cause of it feeling particularly harsh.
Steering could be solved by putting the standard airbag wheel back on it.

Long time lurker - getting close to scratch the 996 itch. What do we think about this..

Looks nice but the mileage discrepancy is a bit odd, especially as he's advertising it as 80k miles, not 120k.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202303064...

That said, 120k miles isn't too worrying given the age.
People will be along shortly to tell you that as its CAT D it's only worth 50p but it's 20+ years old and looks straight enough to me.

Cheap car because of is cat status. The paint mis-match on the drivers side 3/4 vs door would annoy me but on the positive side it has had some decent service work done.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202303064...

I'd probably spend a bit more and get a non cat car with good history.
I was watching this one and for only £3k more than the above it would be a better propostion come resale

Cheap as chips. I'd have a look at it. The cat status will always affect its value but that's why it's so cheap. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202303064...

I'd have no problems buying it if it checked out a good once over
