Terrifying understeer without handbrake or lots of throttle to get it to even think about turning.

Not this time, but, other than the 2 seaters, I’ve driven most of the AMG models in the past. A really good mate works there and has had them as demonstrators or company cars.

I could soften the 996, but that would mean new suspension. Which would mean a) standard ride height and b) spending a ton of cash…. Neither of which I want laugh

Might get some standard engine mounts for it… I think the RSS ones were the primary cause of it feeling particularly harsh.

Steering could be solved by putting the standard airbag wheel back on it.
If you do replace the RSS ones I’d be interested in them.

Cheers

Just listened to it! Seems a crazy low price for this, and knowing his knowledge of the cars too!

I would have had it for that! biggrin

You could fit Ohlins R/T with custom springs and have nice compliant suspension at GT3 ride-height, albeit that this might nail your "ton of cash" thing pretty effectively.

The steering on the 996 is certainly less assisted than modern cars, but I see that as a positive - and I have the Porsche Cup wheel, so less leverage than the standard three spoke wheel. I think people would get used to this pretty quickly.

The mods it has were fine when I was the primary driver and it spent virtually zero time in city centres. They don’t suit a 50kg woman driving it round London!

I wouldn’t have spent Ohlins money on it 5 years ago, let alone now, with nearly 209k miles on the clock. Though I may put the airbag wheel back on… the airbag wheel is massively heavier than the cup wheel so is much easier to twirl at lower speed.

Reality is she needs a car more suited to her use.

My wife won't drive my 996t. She drove it once, then declared never again. Just finds all the controls too heavy. Was the same on my 996C2

My wife is the same. I still keep her on the insurnce just in case, and nothing to do with the fact it's £30 a year cheaper leaving her on it biggrin

Have wanted an E53 4.8is for many many years. I used to believe all the hype about the engines being trick Alpina jobs. But now it seems people think the facelift 4.8 is just vanilla N62B48 like in my 550i so no difference really. You just cant compare the noise. Dual pipes on the E53 sounds so much better than the E60/E61.

I think FB means Merc E53

I have a bm e53 in Spain… but only a lowly 3.0d. The guy who looks after it has been a bmw tech for over 35 years… last time I was in there, he had a 4.8 on the ramps with half its engine apart… I asked ‘problema?’, he replied ‘si, muy grande’ and laughed.

Another cheap car with a story.

Wouldn't take much to sort the look out if its not to your taste (Wheels mainly) but early cable throttle manual C2 with recent IMS and Clutch. Got be be worth a look at 11K if your in the market.

With that steering wheel I suspect its a Tip but then they mention Clutch and I am confused.

Definitely a manual, has a gearstick. Just the wheel is tip, probably originally a 4 spoke so tip 3 spoke wheel is cheaper way to a 3 spoke.

Another car with a fake history. But, very cheap. And swap the wheel, wheels, mirrors and plates and you've got an aero'd car for peanuts.

Correct biggrin

Also annoyingly the car failed its MOT yesterday on the horn not working. Annoying for 2 reasons, 1 I checked that it worked as that's within my skillet and 2; they went to have a look at it today and it worked straight away so I have a lose connection somewhere
