Does anybody have any insurance recommendations. Fed up with the silly price my current insurer offers me at renewal time and the ensuing haggle. No problematic driving history, the odd expired sp30, car garaged, not tracked, does go the Europe, lots of NCB - although only 2 years on the 996, have been insuring for 5k miles a year, but not managing more than 4 - hope to do better ! `agreed value` has been £15k.

A £460 renewal offer - which is a 30% increase seems uninviting. I wont name names as the company is a piston-heads sponsor !

Any ideas ?

many thanks.
Do you have any other cars you own and insure - if so roughly what?

I have a mini fleet policy for all my cars. Its a lot cheaper than having separate policies. I used to have the 996 insured as a classic but now i have it lumped into my fleet.

Many thanks : ATM , I have a Golf mk7, a Disco `sport` and an almost classic Audi A2 with glass roof
Had not thought of A plan -- but have house insurance via them - will go there first.
Many thanks- had not really considered `multi car` options, perhaps I should.

My mini fleet policy worked because I have a higher value car so i guess the others are less risky.

My classic policy was with Footman James. They should be able to quote you on the 911.

I have aviva multicar, Golf, FL2 and 996. But they mirrored the ncb on the FL2 when I inherited it as dad was also insured with avivia. They may well mirror your main cars ncb for your 996.

Even with a NCB I was getting quoted 1800 on the 996 compared to 1200 on the 981. It was enough to stop me buying it. Then I paid something ridiculous like 360 for Classic. Add 240 for Tax and thats 600 all in for the year.

I've been with Porsche insurance for years, about £250 from memory.

Greenlight mirror that NCB for my Clio.

They've had it for a while, so if he could find a bit more money it's worth a cheeky offer
I made a cheeky offer of what I thought was a reasonable price (£17.5K) it was politely refused.

I see Friends Green still have the yellow aero kitted car in stock
I've been struggling to persuade my mate he needs to buy it. I think he only wants to spend 15 and deep deep down he is not man enough for the yellow.
Hi guys - I'd think carefully about dealing with that particular seller. I went to see one of the silver 'factory fitted' aerokit 996s (turns out there's no evidence the kit was factory fitted) from him last week and put down a (fully refundable, given any issues found) deposit on it. The PPI that I had carried out by Porsche Inspections then flagged up an issue with the engine (camshaft deviation readings way out of spec). We discussed options for his garage carrying out remedial work, after which I decided not to go ahead with the sale - the advice I was given was that it was possible that the engine could need a complete rebuild in the near future, which unsurprisingly wasn't on the cards. He's now refusing to refund my deposit in full. Caveat emptor!

Presume that was the 15K artic silver car recently noted as deposit taken? Interested to see what he does with it now you have pulled out and he is aware of a problem?

Lot more to this for me. If this problem wasn't picked up by their checks it implies they don't check their cars well.

Was it this car?

The start-up was also quite dodgy imho. Hope you get your deposit back quickly, not a good experience.

Indeed. I'm sure no pun intended with the "deposit taken" description wink

The car in the YouTube clip has the different rear spoiler (I believe from a Cabriolet) & I think is missing the lip spoiled on the front compared to mine,

Help!

Just opened my 996 and it looks like car had shut down to save battery. Opened lock by turning key. Put key in ignition and got some lights on. But wont start. Took key out and can't pull levers to open front bonnet or rear engine cover. Feels like they're locked. Window for some reason came down 3 inches and wont go back up. Now if i leave it rain will flood in.

Any ideas or call AA?

Yeah it seems to be stuck between unlocked and still locked. Lights on dash but no jump start - we tried towing it with a van - so assume petrol pump not pumping. Wipers will work but slowly. I guess ideally i need a booster which will go in fag lighter. That's the next thing i am buying.
