what is an 'early' 3.4 996?

That's a big tyre. I have 285 on my 981 and it slides around a lot more in this average weather compared to my 996 with a 255.
Is anyone doing winter tyres this year?
Mine came with a set, but I never bothered collecting them. Didn't impact me with snowmageddon earlier this year in Scotland, so I'm not going to bother this year either! We are on the coast, so it's rarely actually icy - the water stops it getting that cold here.Is anyone doing winter tyres this year?
It's the same lever as in the RPM car, I don't know what shift-unit RPM put in theirs, I chose the 997 GT3 unit as The Internet believes it's the best (non-SSK) shifter for these cars.
I thought it would be nice to have the shifter closer to the wheel, I'm picking it up tomorrow so we shall soon see!

I collected the car today, drove home - motorway and then London, so cruising rather than actually driving, but I was changing gear so some first impressions.
The lever looks great, it's a very nice match for the wheel, and I think the classic look suits the interior of the 996.
It puts the top of the lever in a very natural position, and it feels very pleasant to hold.
Being longer than standard it does make the shift action longer. This is the thing I'm wondering about - whilst the shift is very accurate (997 GT3 mechanism) the shift movement is something I'm working into my muscle memory of how my car works. I do wonder whether the extended lever might be a better partner for an SSK - each would balance the other, as it were.
That said I don't dislike it, I think I just need to put some more miles under the wheels. I might order the shorter shaft from Function First, as that's a simple swap, which would enable me to try standard shift distance vs new in a back to back manner.
Feels very nice in the hand, one of those pleasantly tactile objects that you keep reaching back for.

Very annoyingly an old intake manifold fell off the tyre I'd (badly) balanced it on whilst moving stuff around in the garage and has dinged the drivers door - can anyone recommend a paintless dent removal person who would cover SE London?
I'm gona try with one of these quality China kits..https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-PDR-Paintless-Dent-P...f:0
