Be nice if someone could post the part number for the shifter?

Is that it? There's the 997.XXX.XXX.XX part number shown in the pics.

And here are the Fuchs, you will notice the paint scheme is different (softer lines and curved more like a flower petal on the Fuchs). The biggest difference between a copy and the OEM Fuchs however is the weight, there is a substantial difference in the region of >3kg per wheel:
Fuchs are 3kg per wheel lighter than Braid?

That says short shift, I personally would want the std 997 shifter which I think is only 15% shorter than std 996?

996 box is hard work when cold, must be even harder with a short shift fitted.

Yep, no interest in short shift but I’m pulling gearbox to do clutch and tear pinion bearing soon so want to refresh mechanism and possibly cables whilst it’s all out

On that note, any thoughts on the Sports and Classic fixed price bearing replacement?

Are these boxes really that discuss that I can’t get a more local gearbox specialist to sort it?

Gearboxes are a relative mystery to me, all I know is it needs a massive press

Short shift is a real plus imho

That and a LWFW and clutch just add so much to the sports car experience

This is my daily - not fitting a LWFW to it

I have much experience of such things from a highly-strung ITR I used to own, where it worked beautifully, but not on a boggo 3.4 in my own case!

Drove my mates 964RS Cup with a LWFW and it really didn’t like trundling about, you kept having to put it into first. In saying that, might have been a very LWFW!

285 for the sach clutch on ECP just now, that’s a decent price

997 GT3 shifter works a treat. Not as short as the SS, but lovely and tight.

The LWFW doesn't kill the drivability for those concerned. Bit noisier with some increased nvh, but I wouldn't worry about needing 1st gear.

Carrera light weight racing has a you tube video or 2 of his. The rev pick up is awesome.

I have the 997 shifter in mine, actually it came out of a low miles 987 hey ho.

It nicely shortens the throw a little and has loads less slop than the old one.

You can also get cheapy short shifters off aliexpress, but i found them too short....

There is a guy on 911uk Alex Yates who makes up proper new bushings for shifters, to remove all slop from the inferior originals.

I just lubed the ends of my cables.

LWFW not a great idea for the M96 imo, nose of crank is not well supported on these. Better if balanced to crank.

Any gearbox place will do them.

Just make sure they know what they are talking about, and don't get confused with the boxster 5 speed audi derived unit when booking you in. The boxster s 6 speed is the same getrag unit as the 996, just the other way round....

Bearings sourcing is a problem, as they are very expensive from Porsche. Have your place check they can get them without resorting to OPC prices.

Sometimes its just better to use someone that has seen a few of them before, but we all know specialists love their P tax!

Worth the risk for the change in response IMV, particularly if you're doing other bits too. Mine has under drive, manifolds, cats, boxes and it really does rip round the revs.

Could live in fear of something going wrong, but if the objective of the admiral was to keep the fleet safe... well, you know the rest.

Thanks for the input on the gearbox

I think I’m going to use sport and classic to remove the risk!

Long long shot here- with this talk of gearboxes has anyone fitted a new ring and pinion to change the ratios? I’d like to shorten my box up significantly.

Output bearing is whining m, so getting the standard fix done to it - no problems with anything else

And yes I’d love shorter gearing - 2nd is far too long!!

Heh, snap; my 79k box now whines in third, so it's time to come out. I've (mostly) assembled a big kit of parts for jobs to do at the same time. AOS, brake pipes, etc..
