what is an 'early' 3.4 996?
Discussion
It's not essential that I fit the winters but if I don't use the car its just going to sit outside rotting anyway. I've destroyed 2 Porsches already due to aquaplaining and narrowly missed other accidents due to sliding around in cold weather on summer tyres so I told myself I wouldn't skimp on tyres. The only reason I can think of to not use winter tyres in winter is just the expense. I know some people say summer tyres are better even in the winter but that's how I ended up ripping a wheel off the 981 and I even had winter tyres for the car but hadn't fitted them. Would the car have aquaplained if it was wearing winters - I'll never know.
There is a correct sized set on ebay with multi spoke wheels but they're £800 - no thanks.
There are a set of 987 wheels with tyres for £550 but they're a bit big so not ideal.
I might look at just buying some. I have 2 sets of alloys anyway.
In other news I had a sit in my fixed bucket seats and I fit just fine even with my extra winter weight and extra winter layers on. Maybe I should just get them fitted and be done with it.

May have ended up buying a 2nd 996 3.4 C2 Just nothing else in the price bracket compares! So now I have two 'early' 996s, although I will be selling the first car over the next few moths.
The first car is a 1999 C2, no sunroof, MO30 and nephrite interior on 103k miles.
The "new" car is a 1999 C2 with a black interior and 68k miles with a lot of bits fitted that I was going to do to my original car, but the man maths made this seem like the cheaper option.
Here's the spec of the "new" car.
Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers
GT3 Front suspension arms
Every suspension arm/link replaced with new 2 yrs/10k miles ago
Full fast road geo setup by centre gravity
964RS engine mounts
996 GT3 brake master cylinder
996 GT3 MK1 Front bumper, splitter, rad grills
996 GT3 MK2 side skirts
Braided hoses
997 GT3 RS gear shifter
997 GT3 brake ducts
EBC yellowstuff brake pads
MOMO alcantara wheel
Top Gear cat back exhaust X pipe and sports cats
Refurbed silencers with gundo exhaust hack
BMC intake
Techart wheels
Rear seats removed
I want to fit some proper buckets and change the wheels (BBS LMs ideally) and fit a plate LSD (anyone done this to their 996?).
Whilst it does drive better than the first one, being more planted with better turn it and response from the fresh bushes, it actually shows just how good value a "cheap" 996 is and how well they have worn their 20 years.
Here's some pics:

What would you like for the old one?
I'll be putting it up for £13k but open to offers. It's got over £30k of receipts, tons of history (MO30 was all replaced a few years ago for example), FSH and honestly drives 95% as well as the other one (better daily) that cost me a lot more.

Yes, in the New Year now though - too much on before then. It's got over £30k of receipts, tons of history (MO30 was all replaced a few years ago for example), FSH and honestly drives 95% as well as the other one (better daily) that cost me a lot more.
